New stator and new ignition coil... STILL NO SPARK!!!!!

I've been having problems with my M7 the past month basically. First it didn't run right and a new coil fixed that. Then, it just didn't start one day but I still had spark when I first tried figuring out what was wrong with it. By the end of that day trying to get it to run I had no spark. I did some more looking and ended up getting a new stator from RacinStation through FreeAgent.

I just got it back together and I checked for spark and I COULD HAVE SWORE I saw it spark(I think I was imagining things.) So I put the pipe on and it wouldn't start or fire. Checked spark again and there is none. I tried my roommates ECU too and that didn't help.

WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?!?!

Have you checked all your connections?

Have you tested the stator and coil and plug wires?

Do A SEARCH FOR M7 ELECTRICAL on the site and you will get abunch of info. Mya be a bad ground. Also tell us what year it is.

It's an 06. I've checked for loose connections etc. but I don't really know what to look for. All the connections are plugged in. I haven't seen any frayed cables anywhere(tail light, steering post, etc.) My roommate has the exact same 06 M7 so I've tried his coil and ECU with no luck.

How many grounds are there? Since I just put in a new stator, the ground off the stator is connected. But where else?

According to the service manual, you can unplug the main electrical lead from the motor. Then see if you have spark. If you do, then you have a problem with the kill switch, key switch throttle safety switch or something like that.

2 things to watch for, I learned the hard way, one is the tailight wiring will apear to look good but in fact it has a tendency for 05' - 07' to either break or rub through right under the snow flap were it comes off the tunnel. The first symtems of this are reduced high end RMP's, major bog through all ranges and then finally you'll loose the spark. The second thing I found out was the Diamond drive wiring that's located up underneth the tunnel and connected to the drive housing will sometimes break due to either an ice chunk clipping them or other debris tearing them out. If any of these wires become either grounded to the chassis or to each other for some reason it will affect the spark coming from the ECU unit. Don't ask me how or why because I don't know the awnser, I do know that these were both symtems I encountered on one of my 05' M7's. Just an FYI, good luck.

M7

Ya I had the same problem you are having on my 06 m7 I tried my buddies ecu, coil, stator I ended up changing my wireharness and havent had a problem since. Mine would also spark once in awhile then nothing.

Still nothing

Ok, I called Racin Station and he had me disconnect all wires under the steering hoop and brake line wire. Nothing. I inspected the speedometer wire going to the DD.

Very knowledgeable friend came over to run through some electrical with me. We tried the voltage regulator, ECU, and coil off a working 06 M7. Nothing. Tested for continuity and resistance on the connector right before the coil. It was exactly the same as the working M7. (At this point we're stumped) I do an Ohm test on my new and old stator and it turns out that they're both within spec.

He was saying that something is not working when under load? I have the same voltage on both sleds at the coil yet one isn't sparking. And yes we made sure the plugs weren't fouled.

He talked to someone that had the same problem and his coolant temp wire was broken. I haven't checked that yet.

Now what?

She will still run with the coolant temp sensor unplugged or broken wires, it doesn't like it but it will still run. We just tried it on a m7 running crappy, getting temp. codes.

I would look over your wiring harness real close for broken, rubbed, or grounded wires.

I have an M8. but one of my injector wires rubbed on my heat shield and grounded out the injector so it wouldn't spark either. Maybe check the wires going to your injector too.

Been having issues with mine on the lower rpm range. I think I have it isolated to the ignition timing sensor. Mine will start and idle, but will fall on it's face below 5000 rpm. Runs great on the top end. Disconnected all the crap on the bars and tail light, still did it.

Got it home and start ohming out parts. Found the ITS was out of spec. According to what I have it should be 152-228 ohms. Mine was 93.8 ohms.

Might want to check to see what yours is at. Its a two wire connector on the mag side. Ohm arcoss the brown wire and the green/white wire.

After talking to multiple people (THANKS FreeAgent and Racinstation) I'm getting a new wiring harness. I swapped the one off my buddies M7 and all the issues are gone.

Thanks
