As many of you know we had a rough start last year in north Valley County with the grooming. See http://www.snowestonline.com/forum/showthread.php?t=192992&highlight=adams+county+idaho for some background.
Well we tried to do some planning this time. We made up a procedures manual for taking care of many of the things that killed us last winter during the Christmas Holidays.
This year, we have the manager carried over to this fall and he has already hired replacement operators, and have the groomers in excellent shape and ready to go. They will take them out for trail runs soon before the season actually starts to test them for reliability.
The machines were all given major maintenance work taking care of all sorts of items that could cause problems during normal runs. We have started using a new super grease, all bearings packed, synthetic oils, new batteries, new windshield wipers, etc, and have an old cat called the Challenger as a back up for the heavy use area at the Wallace lot on the Warren Wagon Road. It can be used on most of the runs that are not to steep or deep as a backup.
We have a front end loader now that belongs to the grooming program that will be used by volunteer operators to keep the parking lots open and the snow pushed back to maintain the largest size possible. Volunteer groomer operators are all drug tested and ready to go as back up for the regular operators for high use period runs and in case of illness.
We are working on getting some new signs up this fall but due to the late start will not be completed untill next year. We have a new parking lot opened up just a mile south of the Wallace lot to be used for overflow and long-term parking. Named the Brush Cr. parking lot. New signs are ordered.
The long term forecast is for more than normal precipitation and lower than normal temperatures during the middle of the winter by the Weather Bureau. SO, it should be a great sledding season, just hope we don't run out of funds. By the way, please designate your sled permit sticker for area 43A when you buy it so we can keep these groomers running as long as possible this year.
One downer item of note, we hear that the Winter Inn is going to be closed this winter in Warren. Then, we hear that Burgdorf is going to have gas and maybe, maybe, have food. Yet to be confirmed!
We are working on the FS to get some warming huts in the north county and to do more grooming over on the west side of New Meadows. (Yet to be determined). New groomer scheduled to be added to the Cascade area this winter. Delivery yet to be determined. (Guaranteed to float)
The McCall club has volunteered well over 2,000 hours this last year to the grooming program to help the county and the Forest Service so we all can have good year this time. The county management has been on top of the program this year and has accepted the clubs help.
Hope it is a good year for all of you and for us riders too. Let it snow.

PS, anyone wanting to help the forest service put out marker posts, signs and clear trails, please pm me. We will let you know when they are going to make these runs. None scheduled yet.
