The best part about this storm is its supposed to stay cold!!! It seems like the last few years it always gets warm after our storms and all the snow melts.
4-5 inches of snow in Hot Springs. Suppose to be cold all week not getting to 30 until Sunday with nightly lows single digits below and above 0. Down around -10 at night up high. Another arctic front is predicted for next week. This should freeze the ground for a good base. Fired up 2 of my sleds and ran them up the ditch and back. It should get cold enough to freeze off the stripped clutch on my Arctic Cat.
Definitely winter here in Hot Springs. We got 5-6 inches last weekend, 6-8 inches Friday night. Wind blew most of the day today. I worked deer hunters the last 2 days, got stuck out on the grasslands today way in the furthest SW corner of the state. Was able to dig myself out. Had to go back latter this afternoon to pull out a Deputy who buried his Tahoe. All my tracks from earlier in the day were drifted in. Temps were all over the place, 4 above when I left the house at sunrise, 14 below 30 miles South in Ardmore, 7 above 5 miles west of Ardmore and 30 above by 10:30am at Fairburn. I do not know how much snow they got up in the hills. I talked with an Conservation Officer who was at the junction of 1 and 8 yesterday and he thought they had 12-18 inches on the ground but it was very light and fluffy. They were suppose to get up to 5 inches today up top and if the wind blew there like it did here they should have gotten a good shot. On the way home today I noticed some good 3-4 foot drifts in the ditch South of Hot Springs. I may fire up the sled and ditch bang to them just to tear them up tomorrow.
Just a few pics and a little vid from today. Nothing fancy at all, just wanted everyone to know how the snow is. 10-12 inches just about everywhere we went. Went up North a couple miles, then back down south from Trailshead a couple miles. 20 miles total on the day. Snow was starting to pack and become heavy towards the end of the day; which should make for a great base if we keep picking up snow in a timely manner. All in all if the temps stay normal and the snow keeps piling up like it has been the past couple week, should make for a decent Christmas and New Years. Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving.
Kevin.
p.s. On the video. I left my MacBook at school on accident and had to use my old desktop to make this vid. that's why it looks like it was recorded with a toaster oven...
