Snow Grooming Report January 21, 2010

Eagle Lake Ranger District
We are blessed, SNOW! Feet on top of feet, about 6 feet at 4500 feet! It has been hard to keep up. The deep snow is causing our groomers to consume fuel rapidly. We have a more promising grooming forecast for Thursday and Friday. Earlier this week we were just able to track pack. By this weekend the trails should be smooth, fresh and glorious to ride. The Eagle Lake District hopes to have the Bogard, Swain and Fredonyer Loops ready by Friday the 22nd. Come out and enjoy the new snow. Make every day a snow day on Lassen National Forest.

Hat Creek Ranger District
The 16 road is now passable by sled, but is extremely rough. Please be cautious in this area. It has been snowing hard, with temperatures in the 20’s. Wes Dailey reported the fresh snow on the 54 mile loop he groomed was 4-5 feet deep and running up and over the tracks of the cat. This dedicated volunteer crew, George and Wes, have plans to work through the weekend. Please be aware there will be equipment working day and night until this system passes. This crew has pure dedication. They work tirelessly until the trails are up to par, then they ride.

Almanor Ranger District
Grooming is planned for early Saturday at Mill Creek and Mineral up to Turner Mountain for approximately 45 miles of groomed trails. No grooming was done early in the week due to heavy snowfall, but we plan to get back out there next week once the storms pass. Snow continues to accumulate, so look forward to beautiful rides once the weather clears. The Hillsliders are grooming daily until their annual Poker Run on January 30. Visit www.hillsliders.com for more information.

Please Note: If there is an * by the trail you have chosen to ride. The date last groomed is just a projection. We cannot predict equipment failure, snow accumulation or drifts. Our crews are doing the very best job to give you and your families a quality product for the weekend.

A reminder: wheeled vehicles, such as 4-wheel drives and all terrain vehicles (ATV’s) are restricted from all groomed trails in order to protect public safety. The ruts from wheeled vehicles damage the groomed surface and create a safety hazard for snowmobiles.

I don't know where you got your information but nothing has been groomed from the 10 Road or too it. The parking lot is still not plowed. At the Shell Station on hwy 36 and A-21 (The road to Swain Mountain) the Gate was locked as of the 22nd. It is a county road and they closed the gate to plow snow. I bet they are open now....

A21 was closed, but it was ridden hard today by all sorts of sleds. I didnt make to swain to see if it was groomed, but i got an email that it was. I spent a bunch of time back in that area though. it was deep but visibility sucked. maybe tomorrow morning.
