So, yeah! the pass rd. is paved from G-town. How cool for all the pedal bike racers... and now Mr and Mrs Greeny can drive within 10 feet of the Mt. Evans Wilderness Area without chipping the paint on their Prius, sweeeeet! :hippie: Millions more of our taxpayer dollars well spent...

Anyone know WTF is up with the Forest Circus and their plans for the area just South West of the pass.

They are supposedly "taking comments" which usually isn't good... I tried calling the number off their sign up there and only got a recorded message that did not mention anything about the area and offered no option to leave any comments.

Couldn't agree more. I went up there last year for the first time since it was paved. It's a like a race tracked paved to the top! The greenies argue that they want to keep motorized access out of the back country to "preserve" it. But I don't see them fighting this one. It was a nice place to go - now it just doesn't feel like a country drive up there.

How many multi-million dollar homes have driveways to that road?

Sounds to me like the "rich" the dems supposedly hate bought that one off for themselves ...

Nah, who am I kiddin, that would NEVER happen.

Ill second the race track idea. Seems like thats about all its good for now. It's almost impossible to go up there in the summer anymore without bumping shoulders with minivans and subarus...

Here is a link to a proposal around Guanella that just closed its comment period. Have to wonder why stream banks are the priority for that project

COHVCO comments are below

The COHVCO comments are there in pdf thanks for that.

Not sure if there was supposed to be another link you were referring to regarding the proposal around Guanella that just closed its comment period?

Not a single one actually. There's one lady who has sled only access but she's across the top on the grant side, well past the pavement, and she's got a little tiny place.

I know a couple people who have houses up there, but they all live off the part that has always been paved... the parts that really changed were above where the houses end.

It's a racetrack for the douchebags that clog the top of the pass to go hike Bierstadt every weekend. Of course, we spend MILLIONS on this project, but couldn't make it a year round pass so that it actually benefits local people instead of the city A holes. I love wasted money.

a few years ago i was in salida and was coming back on the monday of labor day weekend. didn't want to deal with I-70 traffic from copper to empire exit. so i went over guanella.....holy sh*t, from the other side the first half was SO friggin rough i thought i might break my 3/4 ton GMC. then you get to the top and it is perfectly smooth asphalt. crazy. like the road to nowhere connecting to the lane to buckingham palace...

Anyone know if you can ride up and over the top of the old Guanella Pass Ski area?
Also.up the road to Sunshine Peak out of Georgetown?

It is legal to ride up there, you just can't ride on the east side of the road.

There's not a lot of good riding up there, even on a good year though...

Being right here I've done it a few times, and had fun days, not saying it sucked, buuut... it's pretty lacking and very much preferred to go from the grant side if you can park over there, as the top is often scourde because it's so flat up there. (the ski area is private property btw, but there's some fun riding in that general area.)

Where is sunshine peak? I know of the 14er down south, but not sure where that is around here.

Sunshine Peak is accessed from the switch backs out of Georgetown FR 248 (?) . It heads south west to wide open areas towards the Waldorf mine. The last time I was jeeping there was 35 years ago which is a long time for me to remember much about the mine other than a beat up sign that said "Sunshine Peak-Keep Out" and an abandoned bucket tram that crossed a rather expansive valley.

I thought Geneva Basin Ski was a FS lease to a private owner's group which was abandoned?
