Getting stuck fix

A winch sounds good, but not very pratical. I do have a track winch. It has two metal hooks on a long stap that mount to the windows in your track, then you hook the long strap or rope to a tree or something out in front of you. As you throtle the sled the strap/rope starts to wind around the track pulling you forward, or backwards. The bad thing is you have to roll the sled over and unwind the strap from your sled, the good thing is if you are by yourself, you have a way to get out. Not very practical in getting out of a normal stuck, but great if you have no other way. With this winch you don't need a battery, or a heavy electric winch.

Hopefully your brother in law is a nice guy and will help you get unstuck.

Not a winch, but easy to carry and way less weight.
I have also used this rope ratchet to get me out of a tight place or two.

I have a couple of these rope ratchets laying around. How would you use them in a sled application.

MX,
If there is a tree or something you can hook to you could hook to that, run it back toward the sled, hook to a bungee and connect bungee to sled, then pre-tension it and it acts as if a person is pulling. If you use that and a person on a ski pulling you can double the effort.

Here are two examples from last season riding with my club.....
secret move--team the ratchet up with a Snobunje for extra pull.

-The most useful situation-Down hill stuck, with the ski around a tree. Dig a little, hook the rope ratchet and snobunje to the rear bumper. Ratchet the rope and get tension on the bunje, giving you enough pull to maneuver the sled away from the tree hooking the ski.

The other use was not so practical. We had to upright the sled below out of the creek bed. 3 guys, 2 rope ratchets, 2 bunjes, 30 Minutes. We weren't even late for dinner.:yo:

You nailed it. This is another reason I carry the ratchet. To help if no one else can.

Honestly just ride with buddies!

I have seen a couple sleds with a winch mount on them. Looked tacky and lots of extra weight IMO.
