Freeride or summit t3

I did a lot of testing with the machine last year and I have access to all the machines. D-man took a comment very personal, which it is not meant to be, but as he stated, whisky washy means what? All the sleds perform well and are VERY different, I am not arguing which one is better but suggesting a 154 will go the same place a 174 tells more about the rider than the sled, I see this a lot, give the same rider the two different sleds and the 174 will go higher and further in the deep, for hill climb world champs the freeride is better suited to those conditions for sure. If you are going to make bold statements, it is a good idea to back them up with comments that make sense, saying any machine is whishy washy does not really help guys out in my opinion, so explain it a bit more. Happy New Year guys, ride more, bitch less and above all have fun!
Does the t3 overheat very much in spring snow and hard pack, anymore than the freeride would?

The t3 will not overheat more if you run the scratchers, this means run the scratchers as soon as the sled hits snow. Most guys wait till the sled heats up then put the scratchers down. Scratchers do two things, adds snow on the hyflax/sliders and add snow into the track to cool the heat exchanger in the tunnel. The ground or machine does not know what size track or what size lug is on the track, but with the T3 scratchers are a must, I put mine down at the beginning of the day and pull them up at the end, never had a problem with them and I have been recently riding into an area that is 50km of fast set up hard groomed road, not one issue! On a freeride or any summit that does not come with scratchers, it always has been the first thing I have added to a sled. I know many guys brag about never having to touch a road, or they don't need them, but the sled does, as scratchers allow the sled to run cooler, which is better for performance and better for longevity. cheers dave

Those new ski doo scratchers work really well I have tried the old ones, and the summitseekers ( forget what they are actually called but i had problems with them, they only work in reverse in hardpack ) ). The new ones are better than both of those and work great. I forgot to put them down and my sled was getting hot, put them down and within 1/4 mile it was totally cooled down.

I think im gonna go with the t3 154 instead of the freeride. I'm gonna put the grip n rip brace kit on and I got the rassmusen bumper ordered so that should stiffen of the front end a bit. Also if I find its paneling out to much I'll just set the ski stance a bit wider. the raptors should soak up all the bumps and jumps I throw its way.

Really good info in this thread guys thanks! My question is the 154, 163, or 174 a better option for me?

I've been riding since 2011 but I haven't made it out the last 2 years. I've only done probably 4 trips. I'm going to rent a poo 155 and doo 154 T3 to test them both out and a buddy of mine has a 174.

I really only ride out west so I could see buying a 174, but I can't ride up in the trees like some of my buddys either. So maybe I should go with the 154? Meh I dunno. Any thoughts will be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I really hummed and hawed on which length to go with. I actually wanted a 154 t3 initially but our dealership didn't have one that anyone had backed out on so that brought that idea to a ripping hault.

My opinion from a rider that rides in the bc but not every weekend. more here and there when I can.

154 super fun, bit more tricky to ride. - I have no rode a t3 154, just a standard one.

163 best all around sled. can still be fun and can climb in deep snow

174 best in the deep deep. very forgiving in tree chutes and single track trails through the trees. can get off an get back on without getting buried to your tits. I was told it was more difficult to wind through sharp turns but coming from the nytro I didn't even notice.
