yippee.. .that was my 2600th post too

Know back in the days of analog-switched phones... 2600 Hz was the signal for an idle long-distance line...

and in the mid 60s, there was a whistle included in a cereal that would produce a 2600 Hz whistle clean enough to trigger the phone switch...

can anyone say "free long distance?"

btw, that doesn't work with the digital switches and out-of-band signalling used today...
