Crankcase sealant Question

I am working on an 02 800 RMK Edge and purchased the Polaris sealant (p/n 2871557) I want to do it right, but can't find any instructions for using it...any help?? Can you just use RTV gold in it's place??

Apply an even thin bead to the bottom crankcase half. go around all the studs and such. The goal is to not have much squirt out when you torque it down.

It takes a very thin layer and i mean thin, cases are machined and fit very close.

Another tip.....

When you re-assemble, use an electric impact (if available) to initially tighten using the proper torque sequence. The "rattle affect" helps thin out the sealant getting your case halves as close to a metal to metal fit as possible. After running through the sequence loosen and re-tighten to the proper torque value, one at a time, through the proper sequence.
This is a trick I got from Indy Dan, and he knows what he's doing.
Also, I don't know anything about the Polaris case sealant but I use the Three Bond 1211, it thins out real nice and doesn't get hard. I've rebuilt a number of Polaris twins over the years and have had no bearing issues since following Dan's advice.

The Threebond case sealant is the one you want to use, it is a non-bridging sealant that will allow metal to metal contact. Don't use any anaerobic sealants such as loctite 518, they will seal but you won't get the proper bearing crush as they say. I believe all the anaerobics will leave .005" between the case halves.

I always use yamabond 4, it's very similar to the threebond. Just a thin layer, let it dry a few minutes until its tacky and assemble the case halves. You can use a brush to paint it on, I like to just use my finger to smear it on as thin as I can get it but still get coverage. Also use it to seal the flywheel housing to the case halves.
