Clutching

Sweet. That's the first thing I noticed was the high engagement rpm. You'll have to let us know how it goes.

Update, front spring = good. 150-350, help the engagement tons, not jerky anymore.

new flyweights/ramps not so much, a touch heavy.

secondary set up(just some stuff is tossed in), could do better in the pow. will have to continue on.....

Had 3.5-4ft of Fresh bottomless dry Wyoming POW!

Convinced the hot clutched are mostly due to the fact Doo put the stupid thing in a hole with ZERO air flow. Better clutching will help but not cure.

Oh yea and the air intakes are terrible, can not keep them from clogging off and killing the sled, almost impossible to side hill on the right hand side from the exhaust clogging off, coupled with clogged intake. First 12" of the running board is Garbage especially on the exhaust side, cant kick the snow(i mean slush) off fast enough to keep a open foot well. My only complaints so far.

My turn to chim in.. 850 165 3 inch lugs

So took it out for ride #2..

First ride was in 3 feet of deep fluffy (spots at 5 or deeper)
Second ride abojt 2 feet deep (mostly just 2 feet.. maybe 3)

So.... first ride i hated it.. i knew something was off on the suspension.
I had middle shock at 3/4 springs at 5 and front at 2..
I am 250 and carry 5-10 pounds of crap..

Second ride.. today.. heavier snow (pnw rider)
Had it adjusted to mid in the middle, full springs and 3 on the front..

Omg.. what a beast !!! I was feathering the engine and out sidehilling my good friends on a 14 pro 163 and an axys 155.. they were working a ridge to go over and i just climbed higher then their previous 10 tries in fresh pow..

I didnt burn belts, i am still on break in.. but i did let hr do her thing a few times.. this thing climbs !!!!

My opinion after 2 rides.. it wil outclimb any axys.. but...... the axys is better i the trees.. i love the power.. and i am going to keep it..
It takes more to ride it than an axys.. but i think at 250 i could get the suspension to work better..

In mellow terrain,.. say 20% sidehill, its easy.. i can do it from middle with minor weight lein.. at 30 to 40% it was a bit more difficult than an axys..

But straight up climbing.. not even close.. i outclimbed my buddies...

I let them ride it also and they said the same.. takes more to turn it. But damn she is a climber...

I am going to try to put a shock package on it and see what it does..

My riding ability.. where i ride (in washington state) is considered the gnarly place.. i can ride and the crew i ride with puts in the trail.. i am 45, so i hang in 3rd place, but this may change..

I am happy with her so far... if i rode in trees al day.. i still like the axys (i rode it last year) but in open fields.. not even close..

So here is my honest analysis..

Note.. make sure thst middle spring is set lower. In my opinion..

Braaaaaaaaaaaaap....

I completely agree with what you said about sealing the engine compartment off. Riding with an xm, when we stop he had steam coming up out of every vent. I had nothing. And when I opened the panel it was HOT in the engine compartment. After talking with felker (my dealer) apparently he clutched our sleds. I told him not to when I bought it but I think he forgot and did it anyway. I will talk to him again and see if he will spill the beans on what he did to it because it is working great. Smooth engagement (although it's still way high) good backshift and good engine braking with not belt problems. He did mention that a blowhole would be a good investment because of how sealed off these are.

Clutching thread brother, looking for info on that...

What primary spring did you use?

Picked up my 165 black summit x tonight. My dealer said it came clutched up to 8000 ft. but that was the high elevation clutching it came with? Is this right? He ordered me some different weights for 9k and above which i'll be riding at togwotee. Is this what other's are seeing there sleds coming with, should I switch it to 9k and above or just adjust my clickers?

From what I've read you're probably good to go since these all seem to be set for 6-8k ' on Clicker #3. You may need to just go up to clicker 4 at 9k '.

I ride a 165 WITH 2.5" paddle. Seems clicker 1 is not low enough for me. Was hitting 8200+ rpm. The elevations i generally ride is 1600-2100m. Looking for suggestions.

you need more weight..clicker 3 and 7900rpm is what your shooting for. Seems like doo really missed the boat here with clutching

My feel is that the production engine is more powerful than last years demo sleds by a good shot. The demo would not pull away from my XM in the pow at 7000 feet my 850 now is a noticeable step up in power over my XM so if they got the clutch calibration based on the demo/prototypes it makes sense to me that they over-rev. Mine hits 8000 to 8100 on clicker 1 in real cold crisp air -20 celsius.
A bit of weight would do it good.

So your saying just leave it where its at and run it? If I run lower RPM's just adjust my clicker's up to get as close to 7900 rather than change my weights?

Is anybody getting snow on the secondary?
It looks like snow buildup on the board's could get shoved into the clutch area.
My belt deflection was way off---> loose! belt was making contact at the bottom

my original belt has stretched 3 times in the first 120 mi.
keep checking your belts if you want em to last

The belts are like bungee cords for the first 3 rides. After that they are good to go--that was a major adjustment for me when I moved over to doo.

I've had very good luck with felkers 301 belts. 150 miles on one in my G4 and I haven't needed to adjust deflection yet and almost no belt dust.

I think if you are on 2,3, or 4 and getting your 7900-8000 range you are good. Having 1adjustment position either way is fine but if you are at 1 or 5 then I would change the weight for sure. That's where I am at, clicker 1 at 4-6k feet so I need to add weight to get back to having some adjustments...

Now I gota figure out how to change those weights and where to buy them... who's closest to Lake Stevens area that has the tools and knowledge???

It was suggested that I can easily add weight by using washers/spacers on the bolts that you loosen to adjust the clickers. Sounds like an easy solution.
