cleaning power valves

How do you go about cleaning the power valves? first off i would thnk you would need new gaskets? do u just take them apart and wipe them clean. or is ok to spray something in there to loosen up the gunk. if so what do u reconmend to spray in there. thanks guys.

I remove them, and use brake parts cleaner on them and a putty knife to gently scrape them if there is a bunch of carbon build up. If they're fairly clean just wipe em off and go, but if you haven't done it I imagine they're carbon'd up pretty good. Just don't go to scratching them with a screwdriver or anything and you'll be ok.

I take them apart and use sea foam, pb blaster, wd 40 or brake cleaner to spray them down and leg them soak. I use a box cutter to scrape off the thick carbon. Works mint. Reinstall on the older models you need to keep track of which way the valves go (beveled side down) but on the newer models, they only go in one way.

Just use a wire brush on the drill works good. You can reuse the gaskets, I do use them over a bunch of times with a little coppercoat....

Go to Walmart and get a cheap crock pot, fill it halfway with antifreeze, turn it on high, throw your valves in, walk away. 5 or 6 hours later they will be either shiny clean, or will be after a light brushing/washing with dish soap and a toothbrush. Blow all the moisture out with a compressor and you are done.
Works miracles for all kinds of exhaust grime and goo.

Die grinder and wire wheel to clean valves. Or wire wheel and whatever you've got.

Cleaned mine tonight. Pretty carbon'd up on my '10 M8 after about 1200 miles. I used brake cleaner and then a dremel with a wire wheel, worked pretty well.

I use carb and choke cleaner and a wire brush on the valve, then use a shop rag wrapped over a screw driver soaked in carb cleaner to clean the bores in the jugs. seems to keep any crap from falling down to the piston, had pretty good luck.

I cleaned mine on my 09 M8 last night with a wire wheel on a grinder and it takes about 3 minutes a valve. Works great. I have always just reused the spring steel gaskets with no issues.

I usually spray a little brake cleaner on them them use a wire wheel on a drill to get the carbon off. I always re use the gaskets.

I bought a gallon of carb cleaner. It comes with a dip tray inside it, throw the power valves in it overnight. Works great..
