Can the mileage be wrong ??

I am looking at a used 2009 with under 600 miles. My question is could someone have changed the odometer to reflect lower miles as the sled looks to have more wear than that. Could I tell by the hour meter ? Thanks for the help.

I think you can just buy another gauge cluster and swap out.

I think pulling the right fuse will even stop the odometer from counting miles, I have seen guys do this at sled rental places to keep the resale value up... pretty shady if you ask me

Yes it can be done.
Other thoughts are my track rotates at 45 + mph and goes at a walking pace, but this would lead to high miles.
He may have unplugged the chain case sensor, I do not know if that would cause other problems.
Not good thing to do imo.

I beleave the 09's have a tracker built in it's ECU which your dealer can run and check .the total hours can be for sure - do the math which will get you close. at least that is the way my dealer explained it to me.

I have also seen some genuine 600 mile sleds that were beat to crap.

check the hour meter on the dash...eventhough it can be reset it is a good starting point to see if it matches the miles. The dealer can plug their tool in to see what the total hours are on the motor and you can have a fairly good estimate of how many miles are on the sled.

If there is a will there is a way... Lots of shady guys out there. I have seen sleds with 1400 miles looking showroom new, some guys replace everything if it is slightly off. I have also seen a sled with 700 miles owned by a kid (20's) that must have hit every rock & tree or been run on dirt every trip. I knew it had 700 miles on it but would have guessed 3000 hard ones.
Get the dealer to check before you buy or better yet walk away, spend a little more for a sled you are comfortable buying.

all comes down to personality. Do you trust the guy??? My 09 only has 700 miles and I bought it new. Also depends on the guys job how much time does he have to ride? were does he live? how far to the snow??? How many kids taking up his weekends? Lots of variables ask the questions.

I bought a hold over 09 brand new at the end of 2010. Only 700 mi right now...just saying there could be low mile early model XP's out there for many reasons.

Is there a non resetable hour meter on the everest models? Mine seemed to only have an hr/trip function that can be reset to zero.

this is very true, my 08 only had 500 miles on it at the start of last season..
