Can I assume a bad stator? or?

16 M8000 Symptoms Gauge dead. Will start and idle fine. Crack the throttle and it would rev to about 4800 rpm, just enough to keep it moving. Then would go into stuter mode.(almost like a rev limiter, or fouled plug) wouldn't clean up. On vacation no Ohm meter available. Any Ideas before I give up.

dumb question but is the gauge plugged in?
the other is unplug the throttle safety switch and see if it will rev. it is behind the pivot pin for the throttle.

I would advise to go to an auto parts store and they usually rent stuff like OHM meters. That way you are sure before you replace it. On the 800 the stator plugs are easy to get to so you can test them.

I guess what i was looking for was another conection that i might have missed? Gauge died and sled went into sutter mode at tha same time. So I assumed a bad stator? I will check the thottle switch but still doesn't explain the guage. Yes i check the wire was plug to the guage and other connections like the ecu. Just looking for another idea? Thanks guys.

Have you checked the fuses sounds like about the same symptoms my 13 had when I blew the 7.5 amp fuse last year

Thanks cat00 thats what i wanted here. The fuse wire looks good but the fuse is cloudy. Makes the trip down the mountain worth the chance, unless i can rob from another sled. Do you know why yours blew?

If the DC power fuse blows, you lose guage, powervalve motor and backlights for the controls. Most likely a bad fuse or possibly a bad VR

Not sure why mine blew I was just riding down the trail about 35-40 mph and it just blew you can prob pull a 10 amp fuse out of your truck to check and see if it fixes it that's what I did rode the last day with 10 amp fuse in couldn't find a 7.5 till I got home

Thanks guys makes more sense now. I wired my light to the aux conection this year rather than the light harness. May have something to do with it?

Check your ac output to the stator, if that checks out its most likely a bad VR

What have you found?? Sounds eerily similar to what I went through last friday. When backing off of sled deck headlights went out, taillight and gauge went out, sled idled fine. Handwarmers work, reverse works. Switched lights to hi beam and they worked at idle, but blew out when I gave it some gas. Checked all connections, fuses, found nothing out of ordinary. went to load it back up on deck and it was running in super rich limp mode. Barely got it to get on the deck. I assume its the VR. I plugged my gauge into my wifes m8 and it works, but its all messed up. Elevation is WAY off and somehow I gained almost 1000 miles. Very strange. I'm waiting for my new VR, hopefully that will fix it.
Post what you find out with your sled I'm curious to know.

VR....???? Voltage regulator?

Just got back from vacation and took to the dealer. Since its a 16 I will let him figure it out. I'll let you know later in the week.

Was there any other collateral damage from the VR being bad? Did your gauge come back to life or did they have to replace it too?
