Big Bore ctec?

Only one that I have seen in person and it worked well was a speedwerx 925. That said I can’t remember if it was a ctec

Going from 800 to 900 makes you think those cylinder walls must be really thin on those sleeves

Terra alps 930 used a stock bored out Suzuki cylinder, depending on Ctec cylinder design there might be sufficient wall thickness. Cat is notorious for having overbuilt engines that accept mods well, probably why the cat 800 engines are like 15# heavier then a Polaris 800.

No one makes one that works.
Speedwerx tried and said the only gain over the stage 2 was a 5hp bump in the mid. That was on the best day.
They literally said don't waste your money.
Other people make claims but there is no proof.

SW has a long history of big bores that dont run any better than stock. Thats no surprise to hear.
Big bores arent as popular as they used to be, hence the lack of development.

Have seen a good running stocker beat a big bore many times and my big bore experiences ended with blown motors. No thanks. Been there, done that.

I’ve built many 2 strokes through the years and nothing beats a well tuned and ported/polished engine with good intake and exhaust. I’ve had zero luck with BB’s and have never seen them preform for the money you spend

Best to turbo, guaranteed power. Like any ve experienced first hand the lack of joy from a. Big bore, more torque mid range but was about it. Think about your oem parts, your going to find parts years from now, that big bore kit that you paid as much as a turbo kit for? Good luck, you need pistons? Or cylinders? after 2 year it will be tough to do, and if you do, you can bet it will be 2x as much as well. As your limited to who made the kit and every so often as engin3s change and sleds so do the "performance" shops, the older sleds get left behind for what's new. Rinse and repeat.

So best to keep it stock ish for internals and force more air into them,

My sled now has a y pipe. pipe and a can and runs fantastic. ive had and ridden turbos, in my experience if i got another one it would have the smallest turbo available on it. been on some that are dogs until the thing spools and that sucks when your going slow through trees or tight drainages. With the things ive read here i think a jaws pipe and tune will be what my next sled gets. my mtn cat can already outdo 850 doos so dont need to get too crazy

Well if they worked from anyone they would be a thing. It's not like we've had a decent turbo option. Bd sucks balz and silber is all over and still had lag.
Hopefully the solid kit works like it should.
The blow hard bkm BB has zero proof, just lip service from everything I've tried to find. I keep trying to gather any info or go find any bb to ride. Nothing.
I really want a good powered sled with a 40+lb weight loss.
Sw stage 2 is so far the best option though.

Well basic costs mean that theyre gonna be about the same cost as a cheap turbo. So most people are gonna spend the money so no ones gonna do development.
Theres been some great bigbores over the years. Case and transfer port volume are a big factor on whether they work and dependent on stock engine design. Or if the developer is willing to spend the time.
With the ecu tuning capability now, there could be some really amazing big bores. But most people that are gonna spend 3k on motor work will most likely buy a turbo

Yeah but cat hasn't had a good response turbo since 2011. The laggy chit on the market sucks and a good BB would be extremely valuable if they could get it into the 185+hp range.
Possibly solid turbo will have a quick response turbo finally but you still have the weight penalty.

someone from terra alps lectured me about all things snowmobile performance related for a few hours one time after i posted that my ssi pipe mod seemed to run well. I guess i had said it was the best thing ever and no other mod was any good etc etc. And i learned that the rktek head i had had in the past was junk too. i guess i was supposed to have a dyno in my garage to test 10 different brands of parts for my sled. Long story short i have no idea if there stuff is good or not.

Well, what I’ve learned over many days of calling to no answer is that they apparently don’t want to sell anything.

Displacement is good, but mostly for more fuel and with that cooling. I would say turbos are the reason for the 850... Old chevy 350s v8 with 150hp.. ??

Compression, boost, fuel pressure are modern recepies for power.. it would not surprise me if we in 10 years run 650 turbos instead of 800.. and you'd get slightly more power per volume of fuel. Well if epa or equivalent rules require it i suppose..

WRC compete with 3 cylinder 1,3l engines now.. same power
