Well-known member
For anyone that doesn't know, Beth Baker, Candidate for the Montana Supreme Court is the wife of Tim Baker. Tim Baker is the Legislative Campaign Director for the Montana Wilderness Association. He is a Michigan Born, hardcore wilderness advocate that has been employed full time by Montana Wilderness Association since 2001. If you think we are having problems winning judgments to keep public lands open now, then wait and see what happens if Beth Baker gets elected. Please get out and vote on November 2nd, this could be a really important election for us.

Thanks, Last time I checked she was winning in the polls, shes up about 52%. She has started a pretty aggressive T.V. campaign in the last couple weeks. Tell everyone you know, she will most likely be the worst thing that has ever happened to motorized recreation in Montana.

A little more to think about

Not a lot of folks in the sledding community seem to concerned about Ms. Baker. CBU sent out some info this summer with very little response. So... lets take a look at a little bit of the Baker/MWA Agenda.

"....wilderness is part of why we live here and our quality
of life depends on [its] protection.” Tim Baker

[Tim] Baker lists five areas that include parcels that are the focus of
current broad-based efforts: (taken from Pyramid Mountain Lumber's web page)

• The Pioneers—a remote, wildlife-rich mountain range
northwest of Dillon in southwest Montana, offering critical
headwaters for some of Montana’s most famous blue-ribbon
fisheries.

• The Rocky Mountain Front—a vast, wild landscape
between designated wilderness and U.S. Highways 89 and
287 to the west and east and the Marias Pass and Rogers Pass
to the north and south, home to 290 wildlife species and the
source of some of the region’s premier opportunities to hunt
and fish.

• Scotchman Peaks—a quiet, rugged area spanning the
Idaho-Montana border approximately 60 miles south of
Canada, rich in local picnic sites, hiking trails, wildlife and
wildflowers.

• The Great Burn—a large untamed expanse between Idaho
and Montana near Missoula, providing opportunities for
one of the state’s largest population centers to experience
pristine subalpine lands radically reshaped by fires and their
aftermath.

• The Upper Blackfoot, which offers the opportunity for a
large addition to northwest Montana’s famous Bob Marshall/
Scapegoat/Mission Mountains Wilderness complex.

After reading more...I don't like Beth Baker's (and family) politics.

getting the message out

I've seen both ads and honestly Swandal's aren't very good. Baker won the in the primary's by over 2000 votes. That was with a low voter turnout and mostly republicans voting. Swandal needs all the help he can get right now.

Wait, so you mean to tell me republicans voted for wilderness in the primary? Am I reading that right, BH?

There are no Republicans and Democrats on the judicial tickets, so she is not claiming any party affiliation. Her television ads say she has worked for both Democrats and Republicans and she's correct. She actually has endorsements for several republicans, shes a wolf in sheep's clothing. She has seriously down played her affiliation with the wilderness association. Her husband was put in his position at the MWA because he's good politician, the guy before him just pissed everyone off so he was asked to leave the association. Tim was put in place because he's a good talker and fly's under the radar. Beth is no different, they are both attorneys.

No, I realize they are not party affiliated...but that isn't what I was asking.

What I was getting at is why are republican voters voting for Wilderness supporters in primaries? I thought that was more of a Dem voting line.

This info getting out to her opponent?

I really don't think the voters out there know much about who they are voting for. I don't think she is seen by most voters are a wilderness supporter. I was just making the comment that out of a mostly republican voter turnout, she still won...which to me, is alarming.

I gotcha.

I saw her ad last night. Very nice ad...if you don't know anything about her.

Her adds are very well made, makes you want to vote for her if you know nothing about her. Most people dont research there candidates before they vote. Im guilty of that sometimes myself

Exactly...It might be easy for some sheep to follow that ad if you know nothing about her.
