My primary is cooked. What has proven to be the best replacement. I dont have a ton of money to throw at it right now if that helps. Just want to hopefully get something better than stock was. It locked up at 1600 miles.
Thanks for any and all input!! ?

2016-2017 team primary would be my vote. I wouldn't call it a budget upgrade though since you'll have to buy new weights too. Most economical would be a new clutch like you have, but you know the durability of those.

Is the team a direct bolt on, and will it use the same belt? Ive heard great things about MDS weights...are they compatible with the team primary? Sorry for all the questions, Im uneducated with clutches. One more thing, whats the best way to remove and replace it? Will I need a special tool, or is it something I can make? Im very mechanically capable, just havent ever messed with the primary before. Thanks!!

The 2016-2017 is a direct swap and takes the same belts. MDS does make specific weights for that clutch. I've always used the factory clutch pullers that thread into the center and push against the bottom of the hole in the crank. Remove clutch bolt, thread in puller with grease on threads and tip, tighten as far as possible with big 1/2" ratchet, rap on end with hammer, re-tighten, hammer again and it usually pops right off. I take mine off at least once a year though. If you've never taken yours off the water method with a bolt and teflon tape might be the route to go and it's low cost. Any time you replace a clutch you'll want to get an alignment bar and make sure your secondary has the right offset with the new clutch.

I ordered the 16/17 primary, and because it wasn't a budget plan I also ordered the 911 cover. It is now at Indy Specialties getting balanced. Went with the BD adjustable weights. Probably overkill on the cover and balancing.

Question on belts for this setup. I just bought the sled last Feb so only got a chance to ride a couple times. The belt installed is 0627-084 and the spare is a 0627-083. Which one is correct? I am assuming they won't work interchangeably.

Found this on the Country Cat website:

OEM Arctic Cat belt
Dimensions: 47.519" length x 1.448" wide

Note: The 0627-083 and 0627-084 are the same dimensions. But the 0627-084 is Kevlar reinforced for heavier load conditions and high horsepower engines.

083 and 084 belts can be used interchangeably. Like you said the 084 was supposed to be more durable. It came out after the 2012 and 2013 clutch debacle as part of a fix to keep from blowing belts. I always ran the 084s and got good performance and mileage out of them. Some think the 083 has a more consistent clutching feel to it.

i read and can confirm slightly higher consistent revs running 083. i use it for a spare as my sled revs plenty. wouldnt hesitate to throw it on on a deep heavy day if clutches were getting sticky. also noticed more belt dust with it, kinda messy. good cheap spare tho. '17 clutches front and back here.
