Anyone use a GPS when out on the mountain ? I'm looking to ride and explore more around the lake wenatchee / leavenworth / wenatchee / chelan areas this winter and it would be great to map my rides and also have a way to get back as my sense of direction can be challenging ;)

I have a Garmin GPSMAP 62s, loaded with TOPO maps... works pretty well, got me off Baker when a storm rolled in and we were up at 7500' and couldn't see our hands in front of our face.

We ride with the GARMIN RHINOs

Garmin Rino 650 here.
No topo though.
It saved me in a light blizzard and led me directly to my friends stuck in the trees.
MSRP $499 Cabelas just had them on sale for $319 last Saturday door buster.
Tried getting more of my friends to get them. They didn't want to spend the money........

Just get a hold of me I live in Leavenworth... Have 10 local spots with in 40 minutes of my house. I know your area well too. ridecascade.com

I'm running the Montana 600 with powered mount with Topo and trail maps loaded on it. Love the big screen on the Montana, but the walkie talkie on the Rhinos is nice.

Our crew started with Rhino 650's, they are really nice for buddy location. I've only had to use it once but it was pretty awesome when it worked.

With that said we've moved to BCA radios last season and I pretty much don't carry the Rhino anymore. It's just way easier for communication to have the mic on your chest. I still carry the Rhino sometimes when I'm exploring a new area, but I also have a smart watch that has GPS, so it can do basically the same thing with watch and phone. Not sure if I would buy a dedicated GPS again with other devices out there that can do the same thing.

I have a Garmin Montana 680 with a RAM mount.

Works awesome.

GPS tracking

Ive used the Garmin GPS 65St., worked great for years, but you have to download aerial maps on computer at home beforehand. Worked great years ago, with todays tech I now use the Delorme InReach Satellite SOS/Communicator. You can buy the mapping/nav add on for $30/year, and download maps instantly on the mountain for the area your in. Plus you can text home, share your position, let others follow you in real time for the day etc, and when things go real bad press the SOS button and the Cavalry comes to get you. You do all this through satellite so no need for cell service. Best GPS/Communications/SOS device all in on I have ever used!

If you are still looking, two Rhino 655T's for sale out of Olympia on Craigslist about an hour ago(7:45 pm Sunday 16th) never used. $600, Good price for two!

I have the remote mic like BCA on my rino.

I'm curious which one you use, can you share link or make/model? I still got some hold outs in the crew with Rhinos, might direct them to pic up your mic if it worked well for you.

I personally tried a Motorola one, I had to wrap a couple rubber bands around the input jack to keep it on, and after a few rides it just stopped working. Similar with an in helmet mic I tried too, except that one felt like it was ripping my ear off all the time, so I got rid of it due to comfort issues.

Motorola 53724 Remote Speaker Microphone.
I used it once last year at the end of the season, seemed to work fine.

We carry Rhino 650s, but rarely use them. I carry a DeLorme InReach for that just in case scenario. Most of the time we just pay attention to our surroundings...kinda like we did in the olden days before GPS, smartphones etc...
