Who makes a good skid plate and do they help or hurt handling or are they just carrying around extra weight or do they help keep snow from sticking to the bottom of the belly pan and will that help with been a arms

I've been running the Polaris "Ultimate Skid Plate" on several sleds and have had good luck. I also run the Skinz Bash Plates for the clutch side and the Quick Drive side. Does it add a little weight.... yes but its minimal and you pick up extra protection. Plus the Polaris Ultimate skid plate completely covers the bottom of the bulkhead, thus creating a smoother surface to hopefully assist with sliding across any trees, rocks or other objects that could damage this area. It's also peace of mind, I guess........LOL

Yeah I guess it is pretty cheap insurance. Do you thing that it hinders the handling at all? Do u feel like it carries around more or less snow and ice

FWIW, every mountain sled needs a skid plate, overpriced as they may be. Can't believe the stuff I've hit that would have likely taken out the bulkhead in the past 30 years, seriously beat up the plate, not to mention how much easier it slides over rocks, stumps, posts, ice chunks. Rental outfits will concur - their sleds never have them since the renter buys the new bulkhead, but they total more sleds due to bulkheads than anything else. A-arm protectors are another topic, and I've found them low value, or worse, ice making machines. Not everyone thaws their sled after every ride. Haven't tried them for 15 years, and the a-arms I've taken out since would not have been saved by a guard, and I also took out my share of trailing arms back in the day.

I don't think it hinders handling in any way at all. As far as snow, I have never really compared a stock bulkhead after a day of riding to a bulkhead covered in a skid plate? One would assume that that the plastic would hold less snow / ice ?

Ran the same thing as fatdog on my 18.. and just installed the same on my Khaos, the stuff my 18 went thru and over and it all looked great.

Bm fab bumper helps too
