Another ‘19 850 Heads up

damx enlightened me on a temp sensor issue.
We had 3 this week. If your having running issues. Watch your temp gauge. If it’s cycling from 100* to cold engine when it’s at normal operating temp it’s bad. It raises havoc with fueling and timing.
Polaris changed the sensor in 2020.
damx bought one for a 2006 Toyota Tacoma, looks like a direct replacement. Thank you sir.

The sensors themselves going bad or is it the harness into the sensor? Mine has a rubber fixture supporting the wiring harness.

2020 came with the new sensor.

I would buy the pigtail and re-pin the new connector to the original harness. It would look like the factory replacement.

This issues been talked about big time on the FB 850 group I'm in. 19 an 20s having issues. Guys suggest packin the 20 with dielectric grease to keep the pins from vibrating. Pics are a 2020. Also I did some testing and made some jumpers at 1.2kohms so a guy dosent get stranded in the back country. With jumper installed she reads right around 100F. I have only garage tested but gave the idea to a member in there with his 2019 that the wire broke and he said it ran perfect for a half day with the jumper installed. Just gotta make sure your in snow to keep it cool.

After seeing the issue on FB on my 2019 I cut the zip tie and pulled the rubber grommet that holds around the sensor off. On the 2019s the harness comes right out of the sensor without a connection and guys were saying the wires were breaking off right at the top of the sender. So then I slid the rubber wire protector up and put a bunch of silicone on the wires and the top of the sender. Slid the rubber wire protector back down. Reinstalled rubber grommet with zip tie. Then on the adapter (pigtail) I tied it up so it was secured on either side of the connector. Also, I have a 1K ohm resister in my stuff so if I do fail in the mountains I can push it into the connector and tape it on to ride.

It's in the pics above. Sensor is tx40. I've done some looking and you would have to get the harness part too. Dosent look like the same connector as the 2020 harness on the sensor.

This is ridiculous.
This new motor was suppose to have eliminated all of the electrical gremlins the old 800 had and be more reliable.

WtF Polaris.

I have to carry spare relays, TSS bypass, and now a temp sensor bypass, as well as 2 sets of spare plugs!

I noticed today, my temp read 130 f all day in the deep and even after shutting down for breaks, upon fire up , my temp was still 130ish , my sled run burrbly after startup untill the coolant actually warmed up. The road ride home with scratchers down I was reading140 ish. I wonder if this still falls under a faulty sensor?

Wondering, when you have water temp sensor problem, does the check engine light come on and an error code come up on the dash?
At least a new water temp sensor isn’t ridiculously priced. It’s only about $55. On my 20’ 850 at 200 miles my exhaust temp sensor went out. Was replaced under warranty. Retail polaris on that little part is $200. After some research found out it’s the same part number as the 800. Also found out it’s the same sensor used in a number of GM trucks that retails for about $40 at autozone. Since I have an 18’ 800 and a 20’ 850 and ride with a number of guys with polaris sleds I bought an extra I keep in the trailer.

Do you happen to have the GM part number for the exhaust temp sensor? Would also like to have one in the trailer for a backup, thanks!
