99 Trail RMK Shock Questions

Just picked up a 99 Trail RMK. It has almost 9000 miles. Aside from a few electrical problems and all the shocks being bad everything else seems good. My question is this. The stock shocks on this sled are gas correct, can they be rebuilt or do they need to be replaced? I don't want to spend a lot of money on this thing so if I need to replace them what suggestions are there for cheap oil shocks?

97-2003 Trails all used the same shock as well as 97-99 500s. That is the stock application (may have something to do with the springs) but I think any shock off a non edge chassis would fit. Check Dennis Kirk and HPE for aftermarket replacements. Post on the WTB or suspension section of the swap meet and you will probably find a deal.
