900cc & 1000cc 2 Strokes

Who would like to see either a 900cc or a 1000cc 2stroke reintroduced into the market place ? ....Even if it requires adding addition weight into the bulkhead I think most of us wouldn't mind seeing either a 900 or 1000cc mountain sled.

Anyone else tired of the 800's yet.?

Just seems like aside from custom built motors they always seemed to be more prone to failure then anything else, heck, even the 8's can get pretty hit or miss.

Who has a had a 6 or 7 that sucked? (not including the 05-07 big block 755 poo, that wasnt a 7)

My RT1000 never missed a beat....if the aftermarket guys can build reliable BB 800 2strokes one would think the OEM's could deliver reliable 900cc & 1000cc power plants.

Yes but aftermarket guys don't have to deal with emissions standards as the OEM guys do. In my opinion that is the reason why these 2 stroke motors today don't last much over 2000 miles. To get them to meet the emissions levels they have to run them so low on oil that they just wont stay together.

On the other hand i am kind of fond of breathing so i am glad the standards are there. i would not want to wear one of those masks just to go outside like they do in china. like they do a whole hell of a lot in the first place.

My dad and I, and one of my friends are currently in the process of putting cat 900 based motors in the Dragon chassis. If that experiment pays off, we'll likely be looking for a couple pros with blown motors.
Shouldn't be too hard to find...

Not at this point. We will if we see issues.

I've been keeping some pictures in an album in my profile, but am not planning on doing a thread on it until we actually get to ride the thing. Hopefully Thanksgiving.

If it stands up to a race gas turbo, it ought to stand up to this. We're not talking 300hp. The 1500 wouldn't fit...

Bowfisher, that is what it was rated at.
However, there are an absolute ton of mods available. The big bore we are running feels way more powerful than any of the new 800s I've been around.

I know that the 900 cat takes to mods very well. I was just thinking this thread was talking about stock, and I wouldn't take the 900 or 1000 stock over my 800. Have you been around any of the newer 900+ big bore cats? I haven't but they look pretty impressive on paper.

The only new cats I've been around have been a stock 2014 HCR 800, and a 2012 M1100 turbo, with other mods.
I've also ridden with a newer Ski-Doo 800 (2010 ish, I think) and a brand new Polaris Pro 800. That one wasn't even broken in yet, so I don't know how much better it will get. We'll find out.

The other point of comparison I've got is a 2010 Polaris dragon with a pump gas turbo.

I was not impressed with the power of the stock 800s, any of them. Honestly, the Ski-Doo felt the best, but I had very little time on the Cat.

The pump gas turbo was better. Almost as much top end as our big bores. Bottom end wasn't as good, and it was a Polaris 800, so how far do you want to trust it?

I'm sure many of the new big bores are great, and the pump gas turbos are impressive as well. My point was mostly that you don't have to wait for the manufacturer to give you ~200 hp in a Pro, if you're slightly mechanically inclined.

The Dragon conversion has been surprisingly easy, IMO (My dad would say that's because he's been doing all the work, and I've been "supervising"). I'm not sure how much harder a Pro might be, but I'm sure it'd doable if PAR is sticking their 1100 in there.

With 160+ hp out of a stock 800, think what Suzuki/Cat or Rotax could do with an extra 200cc. Even Polaris, if their new 800 holds up.

One thing for sure you guys in IF love to tinker and usually end up with impressive stuff at the end of the day....I can't remember there names but there are 2 brothers in IF Cat Guys or a least used to be that tinkered some very impressive sleds.

Yes, I'd like to see it........

It's been a few years since the Idcatman crew and I built the first few 972's based on the standup 900, but I'd say that was close to the best two stroke made. With some mods. she seemed to put out near 200hp and with less problems than the new crop of 800's. That on a new chassis, would foot the bill for me.
