Hey all,

Before I ask this question I would like to state the following. I have searched this forum, I have called my dealer, and I know about the chart in the owners manual on clutch weights.

I am looking for a some real world examples as to what rpms guys are running there 850's at. I have heard and read anywhere from 8100 to 8700 rpms I have also researched and researched but again all I get is more and more conflicting reports.

I live in SW Montana and ride 8500-10000 depending on the area. I get in most snow conditions 8150 out of my 20 850 163 stock clutching slp can. I am running 68 gram weights. Should I drop weight? Leave it? should I be happy with those rpms. I have a 800 that I have the same problem with but its got some miles and needs some clutch work. I want to nip this in the butt while my sled is still fresh.

Any thoughts?

I have found that 8250 is where it is the happiest. All i would do is upgrade your secondary spring with 2 delrin washers and a venom red/black secondary spring.

This will give you better backshift and have better belt hold and should increase your RPM by 100.
 
You can fine tune stock weights too. Get a gram scale and drill out a .25g, .50g or what ever you want. I usually drill into the side on the dash between the 10 and the 6x in the same spot on each. Weigh them first and take off the same amount on each so you don't effect overall clutch balance.
 
As the sled breaks in it will need more weight it's amazing how much weight this sled will pull to bring it at 8100.
 
Im not doubting the logic on break in but everyone says something different... dealer says one tank of gas. I have 18 hours on the sled. I didn't baby the thing at all.

To be honest it makes no sense why there brake in procedure would be that...

I think I will wait to see how this weekend goes and then go from there.
 
Dont settle if its running 8250 to 8300 I added 4 grams and still pull 8100 it pulls much harder. Every sled is different.
 
Dalton or any adjustable weights to fine tune and as above...add weight until it can't hold 8000-8100. The most recent flash for 2019 and the 2020 stock have great low/mid pull. My sled came for 8000 feet and I'm sea level but added weight until it was consistently @ 8100. Works great.

So rode all weekend. This weekend was deeper snow..... But again its just not getting there 7800 was what I got I'm going to try the washer and go a set lighter on the weights. I'm not an expert on clutching but i understand motors and mechanics. I should have some rpm loss with deeper snow but I shouldn't be seeing 300? or should I?

I am sorry i could be grasping at straws here but the sled feels like it has more to give.

With 10-68 I would drop to 7800-7850 and sled just didn't feel good on the top. I am at 120 miles and if I start seeing 8300 I'll add more weight. I am also on the list for TRS clutching, but pretty happy with stock for now.

I have a 19 with the latest reflash. Put a kit in with a multi angle helix, new springs and adjustable weights. Sled has really woke up in the bottom and mid. If you can pull up to 8200 you are using all of the top end. I’m running just a hair over 69g at 7000’. Total different sled now and I haven’t even added the pro gears yet.

Yeah, the 68g weights are technically for 6-8' feet. In shallower snow (like we've had down here for a while) it will pull them no problem. but under heavy load it will start to bog the motor down and really kill performance.
10-66's and you should be ready to rock and roll. Got a few guys running 850s in the bozeman area and the 155's seem to be able to pull the 68's decent but the 163s just cant quite handle them especially when it gets deep.

Thanks, if you were out last weekend you no exactly the kinda snow it was.... I am running a 163... I am pretty anal about clutch maintaince so I pulled them apart cleaned them and threw 66g weights in and we will see what happens with that.
