Hi All,
Just picked up a 2019 Summit 850 SP with 500ish miles! back into sleds after taking a break for a few years and really stoked!!. What is the best belt to run for these sleds? OEM?
What is a life expectancy for belts on these machines?

Thanks!

Make sure to wash belt sides in good hot soapy water with a scotch brite pad and rotate regularly between 2 belts, JMO :)

531 or 571 work fine. Most important is to keep deflection properly adjusted.

I don't subscribe to the notion of running belts until they fail. Keep a caliper around to measure the width (manual shows minimum for operating spec). Or just replace them every 800-1000 miles depending on how hard you ride. It is far easier to change a belt in your garage or driveway than on a big climb where you're exposed to the elements, avy danger, or dealing with shards of belt everywhere in your belly pan, etc.

I've used the Ultimax 821 belt since new on my 17 and it's been awesome.
Never ran aftermarket belts until the 850 had belt issues and common consensus was the 821 worked better. Cheaper and no complaints here.

Drop 300 RPM from top end of range 7700? Why?
Because the XS821 is slightly shorter, and I believe slightly wider as well. And what sled has a top end of 7,700?

I bet many people using aftermarket belts don’t consider that they need to be adjusted slightly differently and “what the manual says” no longer applies. Adjust for creep with any belt and that issue goes away.

I’ve used the Gates carbon belt as well and wasn’t as impressed by it on my 850 as I was the XS821. I did have good luck with it on my 800, though. Gates recently released a new “RedLine” belt for the 850, and I believe they went back to aramid (Kevlar) vs carbon.

For the record, I did not make any major adjustments after installing the XS821 on my 850; just deflection, and it seems just fine.

Thank you for the info. I try to keep max RPM of our sleds around 7900 to 8000 ... shkidoo 850.

Going to the X821 some one wrote here to set up 300 lower RPM so thought lower top end RPM?

Well, I read that to mean that - doo to the difference in width, it will likely have you running 300 rpm lower if not re-adjusted.

I could be wrong - as that did happen that one other time tho?
