2018 YZ450F Air Filter Ideas

Setting up my new bike for the snow and was thinking through a couple simple inexpensive options for air intake, as I'm not wanting anything too elaborate like a snorkel approach. Here is what I came up with and would appreciate some feedback.

1. Take a dry un-oiled filter and sandwich Frogzskin material between it and the basket (see pic 1). One problem I foresee is the basket doesn't clamp down firmly so moisture/snow may be able to come in through the foam from the sides. The top should be fine, but might be a little more difficult brushing snow away when I clean out the filter box during the ride on deep days.

2. Work something with the Yamaha wash cover I have (see pic 2). These have a nice tight seal, so I was thinking to cut a hole in it and just sandwich Frogzskin right on top of the airbox screen. Is Frogskin alone going to be enough of a filter in this case? Or, should I work a system with a double layer of Frogskin, beneath the clamped cover, and another layer on top, maybe gorilla glued to the plastic.

I already have coarse foam shoved in the air inlets. I've got plenty of frogzskin fabric so I would like to work something with that.

Been there done that in Utah deep dry powder I would get snow into the throttle body... All three bikes this happened too.. pretty scary and way more expensive than the pod set up in the long run... This was table deep powder days ...other than that it worked .

I tried the CR intake and was to loud for my taste.
Installed yeti pod on top of throttle body. Unbolted and removed airbox. Fits under the cap/cover perfect. It’s quieter , I have not had it miss burble even once and have rode in 2-3 feet fresh multiple times this season . Air inlets on shrouds are stock, did nothing with them.I have checked it when in the deep and no snow sits on filter. My 2 cents.

Do you have any pictures you can share of your setup?

pod filter right on throttle body. ran all year, bar deep blow pow never an issue. People overthink things way too much

I tried running a stock intake this year after several seasons of a pod filter on the 14-17 yz's. Stock is a giant headache no matter what you do to prevent snow from getting in. back to the pod filter directly on the throttle body from now on.

Please clarify which pod filter would work on the 2018, the one pictured in the first post and should be different from all previous models.

Yesterday I went out in some powder that was kicking up to the bars and found that this foam I bought was doing a great job keeping moisture out of the box. It was a shorter ride though and not blower pow. When I pulled them out at home water was dripping out but air filter was dry. The material I used was one of these cut in half and inserted in each shroud intake with about an inch sticking out

is anyone making a pre-filter for the air ducts on the rad shroud area? a nice foam/frogskin there would not be very restrictive, and could work with both snow and dust/dirt. Ski

how do you order them from neil? just pay pal? or is there a contact info page avail through here, fb, website ect...? thank you ken!

While I ordered them on from him on Facebook, the photo above shows cost and his email for contact.

I used PayPal for payment to him and had them a couple of days later.

It is just a (YETI) intake I had , you can buy it complete from
C3 Powersports *. 1 (780) 590-0030‬ then press 3.

Thinking as it mounted directly to engine the vibration probably also helps shake any snow off .
