Looking at purchasing a 05 RMK 900, it is the Aniversary Edition with approx. 2000 miles on it. Anything I should look for, how do they perform and how do they handle ? I used to ride polaris years ago (flatlander) but have been riding Cats for the past 10 years.

if your a flat lander that rides trails mostly you probally wana look else where, i have the same sled and love it but you have to spend $1500-$2000 to make them run great and make them reliable and you better be getting it for around $4000 or less as ive seen low milage 06 models going for this.( 06 you dont have to change out the pistons and they have better motor mounts)
do a search on here and youll find tons of info on the 900 rmk...like i said i like mine but i would never buy one for on the trail. the 2.4 " track doesnt like to throw snow on the coolers or lube the hyfax, youll need a good set od scratchers to make it on the trail . but on the other note if you ride mountains of powder there probally one of the best deals for the money you can get right now .

I owned this verry sled in 05/ 3 words. RUN FROM IT! If you want to spend alot on money you could make them work, but even if all that stuff has been done Id be nervous at 2K miles.

1-Just to name a few. Clutching is horrible and they need every vent know to man to run. Also needed a clutch cover in place of snorkel tube intake over clutch.
2- springs / helix/ regear / weights
3- Motor mounts / intake and crank were all trouble and neede to be completely replaced.
4- A-arms and front end geometry were always fighting you on a incline. It was all or none to make it go the way you wanted.
5- Heavy heavy heavy. I gave mine away with 525 miles on it and was glad to see it go. Good luck.

I just made a deal on one of these and have been researching what needs to be done to them. The biggies: (SLP stuff)

1. Hot air elimination kit - $59.95 x 2
2. Push arm - $45.95
2. Torque arm - $93.00
3. Air box kit - $310.00
4. Pre-filter kit - $44.00
5. Holz spindles - $300.00
6. Motor mounts - should have been done by the dealer with the updates?
7. 06 Pistons - ??
8. Powder Pro Ski's - $350
9. Clutching ?? If it doesn't have the above mods, the primary clutch is probably shot. Different Helix - $100.

Like mentioned before, there is a ton of information on here about them and you can spend all day reading it and you'll get either excited about owning one or feel like a fool for buying it (that's kind of where I'm at). The thing I decided on was that I would find one with very low miles and one that hasn't blown a belt and try to make it a good one. If it's blown a belt it sounds like that almost guarantee's a new crank is in your future and there's another $2-3g's.

DITTO.

If you ride in powder go for it.

If you ride trails / trees go elsewhere.

i also just bought my 05 900 166 in june. i have only rode it on the grass field as a test drive...and i LOVE this thing..

the previous owner had EVERY update done to it, minus the venting..and was kind enough to add a little NOS setup.. ;)

i will be adding ALL the venting available on the market, maybe some gearing, and switching to a better intake (FNI) and i know this baby will be awesome..i dont regret it at all..just like the others have posted, put some cash into it and it will blow your mind..you will either hate it or love it..

good luck with your decision..

just to add to this post i would recommend compfusins motor mounts instead of the slp torque arm and push arm because they are more of a band aid fix and the front motor mounts still suck mine had a tear half way through it,
also i think the only update they did tho the mounts was a polyurethane washer on the PTO rear mount. and lastly if your gona be riding powder i would buy the fire n ice air box i love mine doesn't ever bog like the slp one does because the front end is always covered in snow and if it cant get air from there its gona be sucking it from under the hood see attached pic

Personally I think anything over a 151" is too long. Even for powder. Once you figure the machine out you can ride a 151 or smaller in just about anything and not get stuck. The super long tracks in my opinion are just not as fun or as nimble. Just an opinion though.:D

I fully agree with you but the 900 torque makes the track feel shorter than it is in the trees, I have a 05 900 159' and also an 05 M7 153' and the 900 feels shorter to me just from the ability to get the track to spin and drop into the snow at the blip of a thumb making it easier to maneuver. The M7 has no bottom end and takes a lot more throttle to get the track spinning.
