2000, 600 powder special

I plan on buying a 2000 Arctic Cat 600 powder special with an 03 mountain cat 800 engine in it.

I am just looking for reviews on this sled. I plan on doing a lot of back country riding this year with a buddy of mine (we are both beginners). Its going to be a lot of powder, some big hills and a little bit of packed trails as well. I am just wondering if anyone has any info good and bad on this sled and if it well perform good in powder and some minor hill climbs

As stated above I am a beginner rider and this well be my first sled.

Thanks in advance!

They trenched pretty badly. The notched track and weight transfer issues caused them to go down real quick in the powder. I found the best luck I had was to put a full two inch track on them by lowering the front top skid mount one hole, and then running the front shock loose and sucking the limiter strap a little tighter than most do. Between doing those two things and standing up close to the foot wells they did pretty well. You have a great engine and a pretty tough sled there with the same issues as the later versions. You need to watch the drive axle bearings and maintain the clutches.

What do they want for that sled?

If they want more then $2000 you are paying to much.

You can find a 03 or later 900 King cat for $3000. They are night and day better every aspect.

Like it was stated, you have a good motor but he chassis is really dated.

The handle bar height will be way to low for you and the seat is really soft and low.

So you will need a good 6" riser and a boss seat to make it rideable in the mountains.

Just my opinion. (I just sold a 2000 PS 600, great kids sled or beginner that doesn't intend to leave the trail, sled) Otherwise go for something newer.

I would look for an M-series some are running in the $4000 range depending on how old, An M7 will out run that 800 anyday also. Unless your getting that 2000 with all the goodies but they are a hard sled to kill and nice and easy to work on. Personnally I did not care for the big block 800/900s as you had to do some work to make them run really well as the F7/M7s clutch them and they rip and they build much more Hp with smaller displacements. I found with my buddys 01 mountain cat 144 with a 900 in it worked much better then the 136 for what your planning on doing, the 800 worked well also.

thanks for the replies! Appreciated!

I am buying the sled for $2200. It is an old friend I am buying it from and he takes extremely good care of his stuff. Almost obsessive compulsive with cleaning and maintaining his toys!

He was telling me it has a new exhaust (or can?) and the track was recently replaced. It also has 5" handle bar risers too. I cannot resist this sled and I think/hope it well be good for the riding I plan on doing this season!

Thanks again for the replies (got me thinking!) and please any else let me know your thoughts! I haven't paid for it yet.

I had a 98 PS and the chassis is similar, I found the biggest thing that chassis needed was a bigger track, I put a 156 on mine and was very happy with it.

I have a 2" 151 sitting around, when you put the 156 on what did you change the gearing and clutching too?

I have a 98 600ps also
