pull start

Hi. can somebody tell me what has happened here? (pic) Mounted a brand new recoil starter today, and after a short ride it looked like this. what do i do?

So, my pull start cord disappeared into the hole it it comes out of on my 2013 Summit SP, leaving me holding the handle. I'm not sure if the knot came undone, or the rope tore. I'm fairly mechanically inclined, but never performed the procedure. Is this something I should leave to the service...
