Fires sure are impressive....but they sure do cause a lot of problems when not managed correctly.

I took these Monday. Most are from the north dam at Horsetooth Res. I was sitting with evacuated people who were watching to see if their homes were going to burn. It was heartbreaking and humbling.

This fire is crazy 52,000+ acre fire. It jumped the Poudre Canyon yesterday it's claimed over 50 homes and 100+ structures and one live. Today they got over 1,300 firefighters and 24 air crafts fighting this fire! Today is not helping it's real windy and it's buring in a real bad beetle kill patch, witch is fueling it even more, and worse yet it's heading toward Glacier View subdivision. My prayers go out to all the firefighters battling this fire and all the people that have lost their homes.

There are now additional crews working on the 200 acre spot fire near Glacier View, for a total of 195 firefighting personnel in addition to air support. The SW portion of the fire did receive a little rain, but the concern remains the strong downdrafts from these incoming storms.

I flew on the fire for 7.7 hours today

it was looking real good up until about 5:00 pm when a thunder cell came thru and increased wind velocity, #1 priority now is structure protection, if your home hasn't been consumed yet, your chanceds for it to remain standing at this point are about 80% or better, the usfs is spending big bucks to protect what is still there, hopefully the lightening doesn't make any new starts, the conditions were too rough today with the thunder cell to drop any fire retardant in the pm.
we have lost 5 single engine air tanker to initial attack. but we had 7 type one helicopters on it most of the day

fire update

just landed at 1600, the fire looks pretty good, you will see an increase in fire activity today, they are planning a burnout using a heli- torch on the backside of the biggest peak, they are burning out around the structures on the west flank, also we have 5 hotshot crews digging handline up on the southwest corner going uphill

I guess the one small positive is that the beetle kills are being destroyed. Nature is taking its course there at least.

Prayers to those who are fighting the fire and watching their homes burn, it must be awful knowing days in advance a fire is coming near you and there is nothing that can be done to save your house.

the chit hit the fan 2day

just landed off the fire at around noon, it is super rough out there, dividion Juliet an Div. Mike on the northWest corner is blowing up today , we are doing everything we can to keep it away from the structures, we had 6 heavy helicopters, and 3 heavy air tankers working it 1st thing this morning, so far so good, but they are predicting a windchange out of the east later today

Looks like Sheep Mtn., about a mile and a half from my house in Glacier View. Huge thanks to the tankers and ground crews that have been battling that. It gets past there and my house is next. It's been trying to get past sheep mtn. for several days now, but everytime, the choppers are there to put it down. I was evacuated last thursday. Living in the camper a few miles from my house in another part of Glacier View. Some pics here http://www.facebook.com/paul.block.96?ref=tn_tnmn
