Just put a set of Koso EGT gauges on my xp 800 154". First ride with them last weekend love them. When trail riding the EGTs go way up, 1150 deg is all i let it get too, my rpms were 6000 if I tried to go 6500 with in a sec the temp was at 1150. I was told not to let the EGT to get over 1100-1200 deg.

Anyone know why and how to fix this problem?

Thanks too all at reply:face-icon-small-hap

I shoot for 1200 but every install is different so temps are more of a base line when you got it running spot on. Then if you see a high temp you can be alarmed.

I wouldnt worry about 1150 at all. Doo's tend to have a mid range lean spot right where are talking about and will warm up a bit if you ride a single throttle position in the midrange. Ive ran setups that would turn 1400 degrees in the 6k rpm range. I shoot for 1200 or so wot. Pin it and see what it does!!

What are you running for jetting with the head?

What ever stock jets are. Dealer said that i dont need to because the DPM compensate for it ??????
And when i pin it the EGTs go from 950, with in 4 sec the EGTs are around 1150 at 8100rpms.

Just trying to figure this out so i dont burn it up!!!!

if you are running stock jetting you won't blow it up. i'm running 14:1 head at 6000 feet and holding it wide open for over a minute straight on some big hill climbs. check your plugs they will tell you. 1150 is very very low, on my last 800 with egtsi would hit 1250 after a long long pull, it would creep up very slowly from there, but i never hit 1300 much more that twice for small incremental time...and that was after a long long pull at WOT. these sleds have a very lean mid range for emissions and snappy response. now i no longer run egts since no worries with stock jetting.

I never worried about the EGT until I put the gauges in and seen the numbers.
And heard that pure aluminum melts at 1200 deg

No worries man. I ran 420 mains with the needles LOWERED in my XP with a 14:1 head. Run it. You could even lean it down. The alloys they use wont melt until well over 1200 on the EGT.
