Hey girls. I am shopping for a new sled and I was wondering if any of you have any thoughts or opinions on good "chick sleds". My first sled was an Arctic Cat 600 powder special with a 136" track but I found it heavy for learning. Next I bought an ACat F5 short track, but all it did was spin out. Not enough track for mountain riding obviously and was really difficult to sidehill with. Now I ride an 08 M8 153" and I am back to the start again. I find it heavy and I find I power out quick on a hard ride.

So....I am looking at the new Doo Renegade 600 and the Polaris switchback (try something other than CAT for ****s and giggles) Any opinions either way??

I personally ride a 800 Summit XP 154 with some minor mods, and I am a small gal. I am confused on your M8, I wouldn't go back to a 600 if you have been on the bigger HP sleds unless you have something else in mind as far as power. I feel the A/C is one of the more nimble sleds out there right now, I have not rode a new Polaris though......Try to ride one of each before you buy if possible!!! It also depends on what and where you ride, if it is more in the flat land then a mtn sled to a shorter track doesn't even compare. If you are riding some mountains maybe go a 144" +/- track, that does make a different in power it seems. Just my .02 ;)

I have a 2010 Polaris RMK 800 and I LOVE IT!!! I can't say I have ever rode a Ski-Doo so I can't help you there. I do know that I love how the new IQ chassis ride. I use to get really tired and had a hard time throughing my 02 around. Now that I have my new one I'm not near as it so so much easier on my body!

If you know someone one with one I would suggest trying theirs out first if that is an option! :face-icon-small-win

My hubby told me to consider a 600 just for the weight reduction and a few gals that I rode with in Revelstoke last year told me to consider something other than A/C. One rode an dragon and one rode a summit both having switched from the M8 because they said they power out quick in the steep stuff. But they live in the mountains so....me I sled mostly on the flat (not by choice) I just love playing in powder. I love sidehill (even if it is only in the ditch next to the highway) I love carving, jumping, just riding and pushing myself. I haven't done much climbing yet (only been mountain riding twice) but love, love the powder they get there. I have no trouble keeping up with my man, but I don't last as long ;) Thanks for the posts, hopefully I can test some out soon

How tall are ya? And strengths? I've rode from the smallest to the largest Arctic Cat Sled. I started on a M5 as my first sled. But what has helped with me was more power! I have been riding my M1000 with a 162" track for about a month now and LOVE it!! I had a M8 with a 153" before this and it was everything I could wanted in a sled, but then I have my 1000 now and have no regrets of taking on the larger sled!! What has helped with me is building those muscles and not letting the weight issue stress you out!

I have an 08 AC Crossfire 6 and it gets me everywhere I need to go and some places I probably shouldn't (it IS nimble!). Since I'm primarily a flatlander, this sled works well for me. I've ridden here at home and in the Mts w/ it. Really, it's all a matter of preference. My Mom prefers her Yamaha Phazer MTX over her Polaris RMK. Go figure. :face-icon-small-sho

My wife learned to ride on my Cat M7, learned to carve on it. She tried a Polaris IQ 600 one time and she carved it so easily we KNEW it was the sled for her but in a 700IQ. We ended up buying the 700 RMK IQ 2008 and she can carve it like no business. Great buy for us. She gets on my Cat M8 2010 and doesn't care for it. Too difficult to carve, but then again other gals love the cats. I can't speak for the other brands of sleds.

Movie of "the wife" carving her sled.

11 Pro Rmk, Its very light and nimble. I love this sled. I also have a 07 600 Rmk and My new Pro is lighter then the 600. The track is a 155 and the motor is a 800 so it has plenty of power to get you were you want to go:face-icon-small-hap

I would suggest if you are worried about the weight to look at each brand and compare the weight to power. For Polaris I know that the added weight from a 600 to 700 to 800 is not that much and normally the power makes up for it . . . most of the time! :face-icon-small-win

I have to say the new Polaris PRO RMK is the easiest, most agile, precise and comfortable sled I've ever ridden! You can check out a few pics I've posted of me rallying around on it in this thread:
http://www.snowestonline.com/forum/showthread.php?t=245244
(scroll down a bit)

But I'd reccommend any of the newer chassis at the same time - M series and IQ chassis for backcountry riding would be next on my list after the Pro chassis. I'd recommend the 600 or 700 in the IQ and the 800 in the M. IQ 800s have a bad rep - we've gone through 3 motors ourselves on a 08 & 09 Dragon 800 but had awesome luck with the Dragon 700. I didnt care for my M7 700 motor - too tractory / not responsive enough but I hear good about the M8 800 motor. A well set up Poloaris 600 motor can be one nimble and quick to respond motor for technical tree riding but a larger motor will be a little more forgiving.

A 155 is ideal for powder riding but a 144 would be more ideal for heavy or spring like snow. Course, if your a hill climber, a longer track will give you better performance over a shorter track.

I ride a '09 Skidoo Renegade 600 Etec. I love it. The only changes we've made to it from stock are we put Slydog Powderhounds on it, a 1-3/4" paddle track, took the swaybar off, and adjusted the suspension. It's got plenty of power, even my fiance (who rides an 800 H.O.) said it's "spunky".

I had a Dragon previously and now I'm on a M8 Snopro. Not sure what's going on but my hips hurt riding a cat. Seriously ache after riding a ton. Is it because they sit lower and I steer with my hips? I hug the seat with my inner thighs for steering. (does that make sense??) Standing most the time when I ride. I'm hoping my body get's used to the Chassis change. Urgg! I most likely will put a higher seat but don't really want to. :face-icon-small-dis

Wider seat, wider stance, pushing those legs out and putting stress on your hips and knees.... I'd be surprised if you knees don't start hurting too (or already are?). I feel it instantly when I get on a Kitty.

My observation anyhow. :sun:

FEEL THE BURN BABY FEEL THE BURN.... thats what my hubby said lol

New toys need a little playtime getting used to... no matter what manufactured sled you ride, they all will come natural to your body and riding style in time ;) Don't hang on to what you are used to but always strive for a new "challenge".

Let's see. How much is a little? We've rode a lot so far. 15 rides or so. Around 700 miles. Hummmm, still burning. Previous years I wouldn't even be sore from my first ride. Now I've put my SLP Powder Pro ski's back on to work my upper half out as much as the lower. LOL! I took them off the last few rides because they suck on the trail. Well now we finally have enough snow to bypass the trail in to playland. So I hope the season isn't over by the time I get used to it. LOL!
