Im going to lighten up the old XLT, pipe it, clutch it, gear it down, throw a 144" track under it and then i want to make the front suspension work. this is waht i am looking at.

-Polaris gripper skis

-longer shocks? - I have some 18" shocks i wanted to add (make my own brackets?

-loose all un-necessary weight

-dirt bike seat (KTM take off )

-used 144-155" track, 8" wheels, and used 03-07 RMK suspension

Anyone have any advice? Shortcuts?

kinda like this one.....
144 track, aaen pipes, lexan hood, oil injection delete, chromoly trailing arms and radius rods, chromoly tunnel, edge rmk suspension, chromoly steering post. Probably a lot father then you want to go. The hood was a huge weight loss if you get rid of the speed o and stock headlight. The newer skid was at least 15lbs lighter then my shorter 133 xtra 10.

I didn't D&R the chain case, I just used 8t drivers for clearance.

One way to keep it cheap and get the most bang for your buck is to buy all the used parts that you need at the end of the season and/or during the summer months, and then sell your take-off parts at the beginning of the season.

Last spring/summer I bought 2 RMK 144 skids (an xtra lite and an edge), 2 drive shafts with 8t drivers (4 on each drive shaft), 2 reverse kits, and a couple of used tracks, all for great off season prices. I sold the take off skids, tracks, and drive shafts for the same as I paid for the long tracks/skids and 8t drivers/axles.
