Hey guys, just had a meltdown on my 2007 Summit 800R engine (same as 08+ carb models) at 2600 miles. Was up in the mountains and it started popping and farting on me so I immediately turned back and made it back to my pickup. By the time I got there it was running very poorly and smoking like a freight train. Pulled the top end off and found this:
Funny thing was I couldn't find an evidence of what exactly was pounding around in the top end. Spark plugs were intact, all of the ring is still there, rave valves look good. Maybe it just leaned out? Could it be an oiling problem? Once I had the pistons off I poked around in the bottom end with a magnet and was picking up fine pieces of metal. So it looks like the engine is coming out of the sled.
I'm an automotive technician by trade but have never torn down/rebuilt a sled motor. I'm guessing I should be looking at a new crank/seals/pistons/head/cylinder replate? Also considering parting out the sled and calling it a season. Just curious what some of you more experienced guys would be doing in this situation.
