I am going to buy a new sled this fall, and was wondering what people thought of turboing these sleds. Does anyone have any recommendations (m8 or M1000) and what kind of turbo setup (OVS, boondockers, etc.) I am set on turboing a sled, and would like to know peoples opinions, ideas, experiences, etc. Thanks fellow sledders!

i know that snowesters, boost addict and product tester have good turbo's that are well tested and work well.....ovs and boondockers also have decent stuff, i just haven't ridden with them....for an m-8, i'd be inclined to pm product tester

I ordered my m8 kit from travis at ovs.boost addict is working with ovs on their kits. All I will tell you is to contact him they have done lots of testing and they know their sh*t nothing agaist the other kits but this is my experience here's travis'number 801 940 7777

Cant go wrong from any of the boys in Utah. Gonna be alot of whistling on the mountain this year instead of the usual braaaap.......

i did a little research before i bought my first turbo, the M8s seem to easier to tune and the M1000 not so much, just what i hear, hell this is my first cat and dont know much yet.....not working on the clutching every other ride will be new to me;)

We already have our 09 product shipping out and we have had a lote of R&D time on 09 Sno-Pro 8 and M-8,M-1000 sleds. We have two systems a pump gas turbo and a intercooled turbo system both systems work well they feture ADA,Air density Advantage,As your elevation changes or as air teperature changes ADA takes control of fuel delivery allowing you to forget about tuning and Ride!Thats write it dose the tuning for you.Combine that with our turbo and you have a awesome system.

ADA or not the boonedocker box still is a rpm based unit and will have to be tuned for changing snow conditions and rider weight because it is not a load based system. The load based units like the OVS do not need ADA because they are load based control units and the use the factory ECU's ADA system that is adjusting the sled already.

The new programing is PERCENTAGE based we have been to 2,000feet to 10,000plus with out having to adjust the control box do to the new programing. That is also with diffrent riders at diffrent body weight. With the ADA and percentage based programing the box will adjust fuel delivery as air dinsity changes. You said the load based turbos dont need ADA but use Factory ADA on your last post contradicting your self.Factory air temp sensors will still only get you so far.

The other control units out on the market Pure Logic, Attitude , MPI work with the factory ADA system so they don't need there own. It is great that BD finally has this system.

More details, first what style of riding do you do? How much hp are you after? What gas setup do you want to run? :)

Safety Bob (and others for that matter) I am from Great Falls MT, and I ride all over. We have a lot of large riding areas throughout the state, both flat land and hills. I ride the hills, the largest I can find. I wanted to get a sled that had really awesome power, but yet didnt want to be running so high of power that it would be running on the edge of buying new rotating parts every other time i ride. I know that all turbo setups are not stock and are taking a chance of ruining things no matter what (as with all mods), but I wanted to find something with a lot of gains with the least amount of possibilities of problems. I dont have a problem with running, tuning and clutching sleds (non-turbo or nitrous sleds), but I wanted to try the turbo thing. My biggest concern is the electronic part of the system, ie the program box (pure logic, Boondocker with ada etc.) There is a decent price difference between most systems out there, but do you, and others, feel that these proce differences are reflective of quality and integrity of the products? Most likely I want to ride race gas turbos.

As for all others, plese keep posting your opinions, experiences, etc. I want this post to be able to be read for others sitting in the same boat I am. Thanks!

Boosted 09 M8

I have decided to go with the boon docker kit on my 09 M8. I live in north west montana and have been riding the mountains here since 1968.
I do road trips primarily to Canada and Idaho.
If I lived where their was open hills with no trees I would be on a boosted Yamaha. Being how I ride a lot of mountain terrain with trees I need something light enough to boon dock with. I have found I have to work harder with the heavy front end weight of the four strokes going back down hill through the trees in 3-4 feet of our fresh dry powder, even with the wide skis. I do like the power going up.
This will be my fir Arctic Cat after owning the other brands.
I have been riding a 800 Rev with a 162x2.5 with lots of goodies. I am looking for a bit more power with good manners and light weight, while having a platform and engine that lends itself to reliability and longevity.
I chose the pump gas kit as I ride a lot of different elevation and terrain and was not looking for the ultimate climber.
Check out Snow JW in the turbo, supercharger portion of the forms.

Dodge if you want you can give me a call tonight or anytime 406-580-2277 I may be able to shed some light on it or confuse you even more :D

"Opinions are like butts... Everyone has one and everyone elses stinks"

So I'll add my stinky here too. Having ridden turbo sleds for more than a dozen years with countless hours testing and tuning of everything I can get my hands on, my latest conclusion is that you get what you pay for. Cheap is cheap and high end is expensive but worth its weight in ride time. OVS has the most user friendly, well thought out system available with about any option you could ask for in a 2 stroke turbo, and they have my endorsement for the one to buy. So, as a wise old man has told me time and time again, "buy the best and cry once".

Brad

quick question

Hello Brad, since you are working for OVS now, maybe you can answer, exactly how much R&D time do you have on the 09 models both four stroke and two?

Sorry not to hijack, just curious. :)
Thanks Diann

I have been in sales for Ten years and sold all brands of sleds. Which is not as long as some guys in the industry.I have had plenty of seat time.As far as cats go both the M-1000 and M-8 where fun to ride. For all around riding I loved the M-8 for boondocking and just all around fun.If I just wanted to have arm ripping power the M-1000 was the sled to line up with some budy and race to the top.My personal pick would be a M-8 with boost.

Boost Addict (Brad) I was just wondering about your R&D also. I really want to go the M1000 turbo route, and was wondering how that avenue is with tunability (I realize all will need to be tuned) and reliability? I have read some posts here that say M8 are easier to tune? I dont diagree with the previous post that said this, and dont want to offend anyone by asking any questions, I am just kind of a statistic guy, I like to have a lot of opinions to ponder on. This is a fairly large buy, and I want to have as much information possible.

Thanks to everyone for the replies, keep em coming!

First, I do not work for OVS, only for Simmons as a test rider and for myself as an independent R&D engineer specializing in turbo systems. I have also been known to do some custom installs of high end turbos. That said, I can determine what I want to develop and spend the necessary time on a particular project to get it right. Since the sleds that I have chosen to work with this past year (M1000/1200, M8, Nytro and Apex) have no significant changes for 09, I was able to concentrate on long term testing and refining rather than "hurry up" development just to say I have a system ready for the latest machine and this is what my previous comments pertained to. The OVS M8T that I tested was pretty much a "slam dunk" as far as install and go ride with no further changes. The M1000 and M1200 turbos required more in depth changes to obtain the level of performance that I expected but in the end also proved to be very user friendly. The OVS crew has done their homework and used their experience as turbo tuners to put together a package for these sleds that I can buy, install, and ride without concern of reliability or durability relative to a "Mod" sled. The Nytro and Apex are from Simmons Propane Turbos and are also top of the line, user friendly turbos even if I have to admit a personal interest in their success and development.
I am happy to answer any in depth questions about any of the above thru e-mail, PM, or by phone.

Brad

Dodgedart68 the M-8 has been the little rock star for the turbo and was easy to tune. The M-1000 has countless hours spent on it this last two years making it run and be user friendly just like it's little brother the M-8. The programming is flawless on PL box and after testing different turbo sizes, exhaust sizes, mufflers, clutching , pipes, and porting we have the perfect match to make the M-1000 run and perform like the Big twin should (perfect). The M-1000 and M-1200 have perfect trail manners but when asked can put out the monster speed up the hill or across the flats. Brad does not work for OVS he does endorse are product and install are products. He has countless hours testing and seat time on are products on the M-8, M-1000, M-1200, Dragon 700, and Dragon 800 and has found that the OVS turbo kits are the best on the market. Brad is one of the most respected names in the turbo world and has more seat and R&D time than most of us will ever hope to have riding and developing the turbo products. We also have the (CAPT) Kirk Willamson that tests and and endorses are products. Kirk is well known for his his work on the Polaris product and he has spent endless hours on the Dragon sled's testing last year. Kirk's sled set a hill climb record at the Jackson Hill climbs this past year 56.41 seconds.
