wiseco piston problems

I was woundering if any one else has had problems with these pistons I put a set in my 05 ski-doo 800. The motor started to knock after about 300 miles and got progressively worse at about 700 miles the motor locked up due to a crank issue but when we examined the pistons there was a great deal of slop in the cylendars and the piston was beginning to crack between the rings. Just woundering if anyone else has had a similar issue?

The problem I have always had with them is the pin that keeps the rings from turning falls out and the ring ends eventually get in the exhaust ports and snag, break and ruin the cylinder. Also had cold seize problems even after a good warm up. Never had exactly what you are describing though.

different

On mine the cir-clip that holds the wrist-pin in the piston fell out after about 1500 miles, had to re-bore the cylinders to clean it up. Ruined a good ride, bummer. Won't run them again.

Siezco pistons? Yeah, they dont work very good in nic plated cylinders. Forged pisons expand a lot faster the cast pistons. Clearances in a nic cylinder are a lot tighter then a steel sleave cylinder. So the heat faster, expand faster and sieze faster.

Weisco pistons work fine when the person who installs them follows instructions to a tee along with the warm up procedure. Its not the pistons fault that the above person didnt install the cir clip the correst way or the others that have had seizure problems because all they did was buy pistons and install without measuring. It amazing how many motor problems are blamed on weisco pistons when it should be blamed on back yard mechanics who shouldnt be changing their own oil.

Engine had a slight knock at an idel and cleared up at higher RPMs could have been a number of things and the engine had good compression in both cylinders

For one if you are changing oil in a 2 stroke you probably shouldnt be working on a sled, and second the pistons were installed by a dealer not a backyard Mechanic

4 years at 22psi boost on 2003 rev 800.. no problems still

full season of ice testing the 1000 RT promod at 25 psi minimum to date 30 psi ..
STILL PERFECT...

nic bores expand much faster than iron sleeves, thus the forging does NOT need the xtra clearance.. thats why the cast NEEDS LESS in nic bores..EXPANSION.....

are they for everyone?? NO.

cant blame the piston for pin movement or clip fall out.. thats the end user running in deto or swallowing lots of snowdust with not a care in the world..

locator pin movement is due to ring end gap location and poor tuning.
when they are run on deto's doorstep the locator pin gets red hot. Cast or forged this is what happens, cast will not loosen AS QUICLKY due to the higher silica content of the aluminum. BUT it will still happen over time. CORRECT the cause and your better off..

clips jump out very very rarley,, look at it this way,, weld them in and your fail safe forever..LOL,,:face-icon-small-ton:face-icon-small-ton

I've always felt that cir-clips falling out was attributed to improper install ie: excessive distortion of the clip during install, or not fully seated into the groove.

right

I've always felt that cir-clips falling out was attributed to improper install ie: excessive distortion of the clip during install, or not fully seated into the groove.

If this was the case, why did it hold together for 1500 miles. If the clip was not fully seated it would pop out way before 1500 miles. Why does the groove show wear in one spot like the wrist pin was trying to push it out? Shouldn't it be locked in tighter than that? I am not saying that all Wiescos have this problem. It is mechanical, kind of like a lemon pickup, only a percentage of the parts are defective. I have built several engines, I am not an idiot and am certain that I installed the clips correctly.

If you have good luck with Wiescos, good for you.

forged piston need to go through 2 or 3 good heat cycles before brake in I was told ??? myth ? also I my be Chicken Sh*t but with forged .001-.002 extra clearence. so as an example. 85mm bore .007 to .008 . what do you guys think ? to loose. Like I said chicken sh*t but my thinking is I would rather have them loose then stuck

Wiseco

Wiseco should the absolute last choice piston.

Wiseco should retail for $49.95 and dealer cost should be $19.95

thats all they are worth.

I think the design engineers for wiseco were fired from polaris.

you guys can deside what that means.

I was going to put a set in my 900 cat turbo and when I went to install them, the piston was so tight around connecting rod that on one side I couldn't even get it on to line it up to put the piston pin through. The other side was so tight that the piston would not move freely. I went back to stock and I'll never use them again.

That being said, I had them in my ol 1150 cutler and never had an issue.

I used to be really hard on pistons. Seen a lot of the failures mentioned above. Used to tear up the factory stuff or weiscos with just about the same frequency, although different types of failure seemed to go with the different brands.

I don't have near the problems I used to have and I have been running weiscos on the same big bore for five years. (not the same pistons..LOL).

I don't think that I'm having less problems because they are weiscos. I think I am having less problems cause I learned how to make sure clearances are right and how to run the motor where it wasn't on the ragged edge all the time.

I guess my 2 cents is don't limit yourself.......never say never.....good luck!

HAHAHA<< Indy Dan was CLOSE<<<<<
The designres from Polaris went to BRP in the 07-08 model year, (hence the 100's of recalled 600 rs pistons BEFORE the sleds reached the dealers !! hummmm..
Now they work at Wiseco..LOL Hnece the PULLED from the shelves rt 1000 pistons this year,,,,, taper was cut upside down,, yup,, .009 at the skirt bottom and .001 from writstpin centerline to bottom of lower ring land..

WELL DONE CHUCKIE !!! maybe he s in on the piston design there too..

I am cautiously very very cautiously running stock DOO pistons as of last week at 26 psi boost,,, so far NO fragments...but just one millisecond of deto and the top ringland is thru the turbo ending your day on a very very sad and costly note..

Thanksfully the ice is gone..wheew !!!!less to worry about till Wiseco builds the run correctly..

As much as I defend them on these forums ,, I got assbit by them too...
changed to a fresh set 4 weeks ago, they came with NO coating but had bridge cooling holes UNLIKE the previous coated set we had been running all season ????????????????????

1,,,,,, slow roll on down the ice and she locked up dead tight ..evne twisted the crank .015...

Yup we had a piston problem, they are pulled off the shelves,,we'll credit your account...?? best they can do I suspect..

My bad for not checking when they came in visually different too.
