tollgate accident

W
Anybody else get stopped this morning by the accident going up Tollgate? Sounds like it was very serious. They had several ambulance for all over the area and also had to life flight someone or "someones". From what I hear it was a pickup full of boy scouts and an older couple involved in a head on collision. We saw the vehilces being towed down the mountain, pretty scary. May the Lord Jesus Christ with all those involved <>< Be careful out there.

Crash injures seven

The East Oregonian

A two-vehicle crash on Highway 204 near Tollgate injured seven people Saturday, including four Cub Scouts from the Kennewick area, according to Oregon State Police.

Troopers said the accident occurred at approximately 8:19 a.m. when Jason Pope of Kennewick, driving eastbound, lost control of his pickup on an icy curve near Milepost 13. The pickup reportedly fishtailed and crossed the center lane when a westbound pickup - driven by Alan Bennett of Imbler - crashed into Pope's passenger side.

Bennett and his passenger Julie Bennett sustained serious injuries and were transported via helicopter to St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla.

Pope and the four juvenile Cub Scouts were returning from a Scout outing, according to police. All received transport to St. Mary with non-life-threatening injuries. Police identified the boys as Andrew Pope, Daniel Gordon, Joe Vandez and Jacob Meise.

Police said the occupants of both vehicles wore seat belts and that airbags deployed in Bennett's pickup.

The Umatilla County Sheriff's Office; Umatilla Tribal Ambulance; Umatilla County Medic 400 Pendleton Ambulance; Milton-Freewater Ambulance; and Oregon Department of Transportation all assisted on scene. The roadway remained closed for about four hours.
