Is there even a way to do this? I just regeared my '00 polaris RMK 800 to 19/41 gears and my chain is much too long. Is there a way to shorten my chain or do i just have to get a new one?

If i do need to get a new one, what's the best way to measure how long i need? Get a piece of yarn and run it around the teeth of my new gears? Or should the dealer usually know how long to make it by giving them my new gearing? Thanks, as i've never had to mess with my chain before!

The chain length is measured in pitch, measure the # of links.
The dealer will know which pitch chain will work with which gears.

If your chain is new (less than 1000 miles) then you can put it in a vise and knock out the pins with a punch, take out 1 link and then put it back together. If it's well used then just order a new one. Dealer should have a chart that says how many links(pitch) you need
