Ok so here are the numbers, 190 miles doing 76 mph, towing a 21ft interstate enclosed trailer with 2 sleds and my fuel light comes on with 25 miles to go and when I stop to fill it takes 25.0 gallons. Did change tires from the stock 34.5 tires that where on a 20 inch rim to a 35 12.5 18. When going 65 i was getting 8.5mpg. The particulate filter would burn every 250 miles.

So besides slow down, anyone have any suggestions? My 6.0 would get 10.5mpg doing with the exact same setup. Is there a software update from Ford? Just love the truck, and really happy the fuel is not $4.59 per gallon.

The main source of your problem lies in a little blue oval that is located on the front of your truck.................

Your doing your part for the enviroment!!! I would remove your particle filter and buy a chip so you can double your mileage. I run a 06 5.9 cummins. After 07, fuel economy gets ugly with tier 4. Make sure your dealer will still provide warranty as it is hit or miss here. I am done buying diesels unless they can improve the mileage from factory.

kinda funny how they put all these dpfs and egrs on diesels to make them more environmentally friendly, but if you use twice as much fuel for half the emissions, is it really helping anything?

Yeah the EPA is helping big oil.. Have you adjusted your speedo? If not it will make it look like it is getting bad fuel economy as the larger tires make the hubs turn slower thus making it look like you have gone fewer miles.

Yes I did flash the speedo. I also did this calculation of mileage without the use of the trucks computer. Not to sure if anyone else is having this issue of mileage when towing.

All the new 2008 DPF trucks get poor mileage. Yes even the new 6.7 Cummins and LMM Duramax's have seen mileage suffer because of the new epa regulations.

A DPF delete and tune from SCT would solve your issues, you'd have way more power and I'd dare bet a 3-4mpg improvement in mileage. Deleting the DPF however is illegal.

i have a 01 dodge cummins with a superchips programmer, can haul the same size trailer at 75 with about 16-18 mpg. might want to sell the ford.

Cough, cough, hggm Bu!lSh!t!!!!!

There is no way that your getting 18mpg pulling a enclosed 4 place trailer at 75mph.

Lets go for a ride I want to see this!

I love the diesel mileage debate.

I have had 3: 7.3 PSD 16 MPG Maximum empty, 5.9 cummins 17 MPG Max. empty, 6.4 PSD 14.5 MPG max empty (only happened once).

Pulling the cat is illegal too but that isn't stopping anyone.

So many experts on everything anymore.I still do research for all diesel size engines and used to own three different performance companies. Before you start removing emissions equipment .I would do more research. We tested a 08 6.4 for Hy-Drive who is a public company and tried numerous test for economy. The best we could get with the F450 was 13.7 empty at 75mph.At 65 it went to 14.8.I test trucks for mpg every time a new model comes out. There are good and bad with each brand.Best of luck.Doc

I'd like to know what rear end you have? I know mine pulling a 5 place enclosed with it full of sleds and gear plus having at least one on the deck doesn't get nearly that bad, worst case never below 10.

I get 8mpg pulling 4 place open with my 08 duramax with 33's, I'v got over 2500mi on the truck pulling this exact load, 5k total on the truck. Thats at prob 75mph average. My 01 with the same tires did the exact same route/speed/load and got 12+. Needless to say im not too impressed to far, but some say the break in won't be over till about 15k, so we'll see...

All the dpf removal stuff seems to be a huge risk/reward issue. If you do it, an get great mpg/power, and most people seem to be having great success with it, thats great. But if you have a major problem and warranty won't cover you, it can get mighty spendy.

I had a couple customers trade them in complaining about horrendous mileage numbers in that range...so it doesn't sound out of the question for sure.

3.73 limited slip.

The debate over emission removal is not one for this owner. A friend lost a cummins with a B&D chip and Dodge gave him a bill for $12,000.00 after he dropped a cylinder. The Dodge dealer said since he had a chip there will be zero warranty coverage.

which 5.9 cummins? that is definitely arguable. they made at least three different versions of the 5.9.
