BODY PROTECTION:

WHAT I WEAR

I mentioned in my last article (“My View, Chaffin Shares Her Riding Tips,” SnoWest Magazine, January 2017, page 24) about body protection and I have had people ask me why I wear what I do and which brands I wear.

For a chest protector I wear a Troy Lee Designs 7855 Long-Sleeve Protection Shirt (youth large). It doesn’t weigh me down, fits close to my body, is ventilated and gives me great protection thanks to its Shock Doctor technology. You can also remove some of the pads and it is neck brace compatible.

For knee protection, I wear the PodMX K8 Knee Braces (size small). They are lightweight carbon fiber and easily adjustable. They are not very bulky and offer great knee protection. I also wear a Fly Racing kidney belt under my protection shirt (size small/medium). It is very comfortable and the “dual pull” adjustment sys-tem makes it nice and secure.

Boots are something I also take very seriously. I like to wear a stiff boot that gives me great ankle sup-port for the aggressive type of riding I do. I make sure that the bottom of my knee brace meets right up to the top of my boot with no gap in between so I can get the ultimate protection. I wear HMK boots. They’re insulated, comfy and give me the protection I need.
