damaged rings and compression readings

Amsnow
Q On my last ride this spring my 800 E-TEC seemed down on power. It was running hotter than usual the weekend earlier. I’m wondering if I damaged the rings. What should I see for compression readings on my engine with 1,200 miles on it?

A Compression gauges are just a baseline and should not be the determining factor if the rings are worn. The typical compression of an 800 E-TEC should be 140-150, depending on each gauge. In regards to rings, a leak down tester should be used to verify more accurately. – Jason Houle, Straightline Performance
