I can now officially check riding on snow in August off my bucket list. And not just any kind of snow… awesome snow!
The next journey of Burandt’s Backcountry Adventure takes me, my crew and all of our snow-hungry customers south of the equator to Chile to play in the white stuff in the middle of summer.
For those of you who struggled in Geography class; since Chile is in South America, and South America is south of the equator, their seasons are opposite of ours.
Ok, so that explains the snow deal. Now, how this whole deal came together: I first met the guys from SledChile when they came and joined us on a Burandt Backcountry Adventure trip here in Colorado. It was cool to hear about their journey to find snow during their summer (which was our winter in Colorado).
After seeing pictures of their setup in Chile, the wheels started turning and I knew right then and there a trip down to South America for some investigative research was in order. So in the summer of 2013, I took the long plane ride south with Slednecks to see what summer (or their winter) in Chile was all about. I came away from that trip absolutely blown away!
The sledding, the snow, the food, the people and everything about the trip exceeded all my expectations. It got me fired up to share this experience with all the other snow crazy people out there like me.
As soon as I got home from that crazy adventure, I went to work trying to figure out how to make this thing happen. Logistically it was pretty intense to get everything set up and dialed. But we took the plunge with a container completely loaded with 2014 Polaris Pro RMK’s, tools and parts. At that point were 100 percent committed.
The Chile set up down there is so cool! We are able to ride right from the SledChile compound where the guest cabins and shop are located. It’s a short 5-mile rip up the road to an endless playground smack dab in the middle of the Andes Mountains.
We’ve worked really hard to make this experience as turn-key as possible for our guests. It’s pretty simple, book your flight to Chile, bring your gear, and we will take care of the rest. Our first year down in Chile has been a huge success and as you can see from the pictures, this adventure of a lifetime is real!
