Magic For The Mountains

A 370-pound sled

December 2002 Feature Ryan Peacock
The guys at Mountain Magic Snow Machines have been building sleds under 400 pounds for more than 10 years but they've never made as many changes as they're making this year.
Years ago Mountain Magic made snowmachines with modified engines, but there were so many problems with the engines that the company decided to stay stock. The builders designed their custom-made chassis around the stock engine with emphasis on keeping the sled light.
Now with the increased reliability and power available in aftermarket engines, Mountain Magic has decided to start using them again. With a new engine, this lightweight sled will be able to surpass anything it did with a stock engine.
The company has also changed to a multi-mount system for the engine and a third jackshaft bearing to provide stability and durability. It has new clutches, new shafts, a longer chassis, longer tracks and still weighs in at a trim 370 lbs.
Mountain Magic is working to develop a state-of-the-art digital ignition system. The computerized ignition will be calibrated to the needs of each sled and could easily revolutionize snowmachines, or at least their ignition systems.
Mountain Magic is always looking for something better. The changes they've made this year, making the sled longer, lighter, faster and stronger, make this small Edmonton shop a leader in hybrid sleds.
