We were lucky enough to spend some time on the new Silber 850 G4 turbo kit. In short, it totally changed what we thought a 2-stroke turbo kit could be. Easy to use, incredible performance, fast install and absolutely no tuning. Check this post for our full review or take a quick look at the video. Needless to say, we’re believers!
2018 Silber External Wastegate ECU Reflash G4 850 ETEC

Pros:

• Linear power delivery, very little lag
• Low cost
• Easiest installation in the business
• Adjustable boost
• Easy to ride! No tuning (finally)

Cons:

• Your friends won’t be able to get to you when you are stuck (unless they buy one too)
• You had better be able to hold on!

Anyone who has been on a two stroke turbo (that is running well) can likely attest, it’s the most grin inducing machine you’ll ever throw a leg over. Problem is, that whole “running well” part. Until recently, most companies controlled fueling for the extra volume of air the turbo produces through some sort of add on, piggyback controller that didn’t’ speak to the engine’s main computer. So you’d have one computer controlling the turbo fueling requirements and the stock computer running as normal. This would be like two contractors working on the same house but never talking to one and other.

This lack of communication between the turbo and the engine’s main engine control unit is a major point of tuning headaches that usually lead to your “turbo buddy” being the least fun guy to ride with. Until now.
Silber has been building snowmobile turbo kits that utilize the factory snowmobile’s ECU to control fueling requirements for the turbo. They’ve been utilizing this technology with great success for a number of years, and they just finished their 850 kit to compliment their line of Polaris kits.
So how does it work? In short, the company reflashes the stock computer with a custom map that allows the computer to dynamically compensate for the boost thrown into the motor (along with a whole bunch of other things the piggyback guys couldn’t dream). This means as you go up and down, the motor can respond to changes in elevation just like your stock sled does. Hot or cold outside? Yup, same thing – the ECU can compensate and dynamically adjust. This means there is absolutely no tuning. Pull the rope, and go – the computer dynamically tunes the sled based off the environment it is running in. The second advantage to this system, it is simpler, which not only means it runs better, but its actually less expensive for the end user

…But how’d it ride?

The kit ran like a stocker, if the stock sled had 210+ horse. The sled made power so smoothly. It never burbled or bobbled no matter what we were doing with the sled. The 850 is such a great motor under boost from a performance standpoint as the larger displacement helps build boost just a hair quicker than the 800s, making turbo lag nearly non existent.

The mid range is very predicable and usable with the top end feeling seemingly endless. The power just keeps coming on.
The entire time we rode the sled we never touched a thing. We just plain had fun…

This is a welcome change to the Ski-Doo loyalist out there. We finally have a kit that seems hassle free, easy to install and (more) justifiable to the wife (hey, it’s a lot less expensive than the other guys!).
How’s does this kit compare to the other kits out there? Of course we’ve carried other kits in the past and found a way to make them work fairly well. This is however a notable step forward in 2 stroke turbo performance for the 850. Put another way, we won’t be riding anything else this upcoming season, especially when it comes to technical tree riding. Silber is in a class of their own.
We’ve decided to become a dealer. Anyone else feeling its going to be a long summer? Hit us up for your turbo sled needs! So give us a call 307-856-0265 to preseason yours today!

How much boost can you run on this kit on strait av gas?? Run now at 10lbs with the 800 Etec at 8000'

Kit is adjustable from 3-10 though anticipation is most will run 5-7.

Fuel depends on elevation and boost, of course.
