M7 vs M8 vs M1000

Looking to upgrade from the ol 1m 900 sometime. I have access to an M7 and i ride it every now and again. I can do things on that chassis that i would never dream of on the 1m. I like the top end pull of the m7, but miss the low rpm pull of the 900. Question is, m7 with pipes

M8, stock.

M1000 with single pipe

I do lots of boondocking, tree riding and climbing. Almost no jumping.

What do you guys think?

I went from a 2004 1M900 151 to a 2010 M8 162 and was totally happy with the upgrade for the last 12 years. I upgraded to a newer sled this year.

All my riding was in the Rockies and boondocking was done whenever possible.

M8. The M7’s lack of reverse would be a deal breaker for me anyway. The M1000 is great on power and torque, but the added weight is hard to ignore.

Had six m-8’s, four m-7’s in our family. Only one M1000.
I never thought the M1000 felt heavy, couldn’t keep the skis on the ground.
Loved that sled.

M7 was great but underpowered
My vote is 09 or better m8. 08 m8 was nothing special. M1000 were heavy and nothing special. Only seen one that i would say ran decent. Seen a few blow up. M8 was bomb proof.

How is the power of the 800 compared to the old 900? I know i love the chassis already. Im also going out this weekend to ride that m7 in the trees so ill post how that goes.

If you want the 900 bottom end you crave the 1000.
Arm stretcher.
M-8’s are awesome, still have three and highly recommended for wife or kids, but if it was for me I’d go with the 1000 every time.

Never noticed it until i started tree riding. That low rpm grunt, just pulls you around instead of buriing you. Is there too much weight on the front of the 1000 to do say like a hopover or bowtie? Not saying i can do that right now, but id like to learn.

Had all three. Still have my 2005 M7. Very reliable and still makes an excellent backup/buddy sled.

2009 M1000 lots of vibration that caused electrical issues from bared wires. Was heavy in the front end and the weight wore me out in tighter technical riding. Can get big power with a few mods, but then there's motor mount and clutch issues to work out. Fuel tuning is critical with mods. Buy one of these if you want a project.

2010-2011 M8 for the average person all day. Rode a 2011 for a season and really liked that sled.

When I say bottom end and skis lift off the ground, that’s where I could tree ride better with the 1000 than the 8.
It flat jumped off the ground and I could hop up and over crap that the 8 wouldn’t clear.

My 1000 was smooth as silk, clutches balanced, tuned and clutched with Speedwerx single. 4500 miles no tinkering before I sold it.

Get a 10 or 11 m8. They had more power. 1000 is front heavy. Lighter is better in trees. If weight didn't matter people would be riding 4 strokes. Also if the 1000 was all that they would still make it. You can pipe and clutch the 800 if you want more. If you still want more upgrade to an 18.

The 800HO in the '10 and '11 M8s was 160hp. They pop the front almost as well as the M1000. Don't get me wrong when you get a M1000 dialed in they do pull, but I had both in the garage at the same time and 7/10 days I'd pick the M8.

The M1000 , when modded, is great for straight climbing. Sucks azzz on one ski.

They are very heavy up front.

The 09 m8 with Slp is on par with the stock 2010-11 800 HO.

Are used turbo M8’s a gamble? How does this motor take to boost?
Any used turbo is a gamble. My 09 turbo m8 was stellar. It was a boondocker kit that i installed myself. Most troubles were from crappy installs. Ate a set of plugs was only issue i had. Have to keep up on belt deflection or you would get a low end bog. That motor was about as bomb proof as you get.

I dont think anyone makes a turbo kit for that old of a sled do they? I like the terra alps 930 kit though.
