Take a gander at your aft/PTO motor mount bolt (behind and below secondary clutch)......and see if the bolt head is missing. 2 of the last 3 sleds in the shop this has been broken, one caused clutch damage when the clutches came together. The other was unaware it was broken. Just a heads up :beer;:)

i saw one like that last year and the clutchs touched and caused alot of damage,i was thinking of getting some higher rated bolts to use
 
And, just to add a little here, that same motor mount broke on my sled last year. So, add this to the list of stuff to check on a regular basis...

Don't forget to check the front PTO mount. Found this on mine last year.:mad:

Brew,, I see that damage when the front springs and shock valving are not corrected.
bottoming this XP chassis out is a death PUNCH to the sled's assembly points.

In snowcross we do NOT se this damage as we are not bottoming as hard as the stockers do.

step up to at least a good dual rate front spring set and correct for the rider weight,, center spring.

contact me for your shock need, I turn shocks around on a one day basis and have the correct spring sets in stock for most all weights, at least tose from 160 lbs to 230 lbs rider weight.

Gus, Do you think the clutches pulling together may be a cause also?? That is what it looks like with the direction of pull....???
Both these sleds don't see huge impact, nothing but powder and soft spring snow...and neither guy is a bump rider. These were both stock '08 Summits.
Looks like a good opportunity for someone to make a bracket that goes under this bolt head and down to the stud a few inches below to lessen movement ????:beer;
 
I built a brace that goes from the secondary jackshaft support mount and bares right on that bolt head you are talking about. That eliminated all movement from the clutches.

Does it go to the upper bolt of the jackshaft support? Or to the lower bolt?
 
Ya to a point but its not enough traction or load to break it on its own..
no one seems to believe the shocks are too soft, most think they are not bottoming hard even when they are snapping chassis peices..

then there's the guys that stiffen the rear and leave the front, when in reality the front is so off its making you think the rear is kicking or swapping..
wrong end..

the front feed the rear on a sled, the rear just follows its lead. if the nose is down, the rear will kick up.., .

too bad the sled manufact, do not give some basic rates for weights as well as rider sag...

Brew, niether. It mounts to the front side of the jackshaft support. Just clears the back of the secondary at full shift. I used a piece of 1/8 by 2 inch steel strip and it is shaped up around the bottom of the jackshaft bearing a bit. I just used an adjustable bolt setup on the bottom to limit the amount it can flex. I need to build an updated version with a rubber bumber and a bolt on push point for that to bare on rather than the bolt.

I think Gus is right though...I just looked at mine and the head of that motor mount bolt is gone!

Gus, what do you recommend a mod to the stock front shox or a set of floats??

Why is doo such a moron about this???? Its not just doo it seems. I have a 200hp hayabusa that is capable of near 200 mph. I was complaining about the front a while back , a mech told me to replace the fork springs , as they are about right for a 90 lb rider:mad:. sj
 
A spring change to a nice OEM doo set that won't fade or leave you broke.
yes at the very least change the shock oil as it was beat to death by the under sprung sled and rider.
I charge 375, revalved and resprung for your style and weight.

regularly its 190 per shock to revalve/rebuild, + 100 each per spring.

BSP is offering this ONLY to xp riders and thru the end of december.

so regular price would be 580 for shocks and springs...

i got a deal on a box of the springs from doo so I'm passing it on to you.

SWEET! Ill probably have you do the fronts. A different skid is headed under the rear.

Not sure how long ups takes to get to New Hampshire Gus, but you should have a few bits there fairly soon!!
