Has Polaris issued a recall for the oil cap?

Found that part number as a vented gas cap assembly on the 05 Polaris Predator 500 if you want to see it on a fiche, Ronnies has the assembly for $24.64 US, FWIW. Add a one way check valve from a IQ 550, e.g., and you're there.

Polaris Part numbers and photos show in the info from Hawkster and Reg.

It's interesting that the 550's use both a vented oil-tank cap (same as on all the Pro's) AND a check-valve. Hmmm.

That Predator cap fits the oil bottle well, but it doesn't fit the chassis very well. There is very little room above the oil bottle cap and a strait out the top fitting hits the side panel/hood. That is why I went with a 90* fitting on top of the cap, and used a cap that doesn't have a dome to it, and is very low profile. This keeps the vent hose from rubbing on anything.

I stumbled into this when we where cabin hopping this weekend , Poo must believe it is necessary on some of their models . This has been and is being used on the current 550s' .

The vent line you describe, is a return line from the oil pump. This is part of the bleed kit(2203889) that was installed on the 550's that I talked about in an earlier post. If you don't want to source the parts, get the Paaso.

Get the Paaso cap. Nice piece.

I had 1 small 1/16” hole drilled in my cap and it leaked every time the sled was upside down (rolling over to get unstuck):face-icon-small-sad

Just a thought on the air bubble. Wondering if it is caused by the routing of the oil supply line and motor heat. I have not had an air bubble in my supply line since the $28 upgrade. Same oil cap.

For comparison, the 550f had the air bubble problem that had many a motor meet its demise. Heat soak of the oil was the cause. Polaris came out with a bleed kit (2203889) to rectify the problem.

Tony,

Have you retrofit any of your CFi engines with this bleed kit?

Will this fit onto an oil pump on a CFi engine?

Any drawbacks if it were to be installed?

Eric,
I have not installed one on the CFI. The air bubble problem I was having disappeared after the $28 upgrade.
I still believe the cause is from heat soaking the oil after prolonged hard run shutdowns. Look at engine tip in temps, at start up, utilizing the stock thermostat. The heat soak also plagued the 550 oil.
I will look to see if the top plate will retrofit to the CFI pump this afternoon. I don't think there would be any adverse effects associated with the bleed kit on a CFI2.

I contemplated using a 1/16" bit too but am glad I followed geo's advice & used the .020" bit instead.

I am sorry to say the CFI2 800's oil pump design will not facilitate the 550 bleed kit. With further inspection it appears a bleed kit, on the 800 oil pump, would starve the engine of oil.

.020 equals about 1/50 of an inch. Way smaller than1/16. How do you go that small? The smallest bit I've found is 1/16.

Here is a set I picked up from Harbor Freight awhile back for some carb modifications I was doing..
