I have the saw that is in my shovel but they tend to break and would like to carry a backup.

Any info on a good blade would be great!
Thanks, Ryan

i too have the one that's in my shovel, and also carry a foldable saw as well. Mine was getting old, so i upgraded to a Gerber Exchange a Blade foldable saw, $15. It appears to be well made, but we'll see how it works this year. Im sure there are others out there that are more high end, but they carried just two brands in that store.

I do know that when i picked it up, i asked the guy at my local outfitter for the best saw they had... he steered me away from the HME foldable saw as it was in his words "a pile of crap for the same cost"... i have no experience with either brand, so i couldn't be a judge.

I will keep the old one around as a spare.

I have a Gerber - not the same one as you as my blade retracts into the handle - but it has served me well on numerous hunting trips and while snowmobiling. This last weekend my daughter wrapped her sled around a tree and she had a cheap -really cheap WalMart special - folding saw in her sled and I was surprised at how well it worked! Go figure -

Lot's of options. I have both a Gerner and a Buck. Both are folding saws, 8-10 inches long when folded, lock blades, easy to tuck into a small bag/space. $20-$30 for some great options at any reputable outfitter.

Thanks for info, Sounds like most name brands have a good unit for $20-30..

I seem to get tied up in tree's quite a bit and like to carry a spare.:face-icon-small-win

Those saws are good, but this saw is....

GREAT!!!! Seriously. I used one of these to extract myself out of a precarious spot this weekend. I will never use a traditional folding saw again. Just start nice and easy and you would be surprised at how large a tree you can fall with it. A nice little folder is okay for small branches and stuff, but this one rocks.

x2 on the Wyoming Saw - I have the 11" compact model. Takes up a little more space and is a little heavier but nothing else comes close for reliable and efficient woodworking particularly when working with larger diameter trees. On the small stuff, I could get the folding style to work once or twice(more often once) but folding saws never seemed to last for me. Plus, no contest which type I would want in a survival situation.

Looks like chainsaw chain to me.

Can't see the cutter but probably 3/8 lopro semichisel since this is used on small cc powerheads.

turbo cut saw- ps70 works awesome until I lost it and it's $50 leather case last season.

REplaced it with this. works real good too.

also bought one of these on craigslist- search 'top handle chainsaw'
http://www.echo-usa.com/Products/Chain-Saws/CS-33T

And it all fits in this pack- too bad it's gone up in price. BUT comes with a lifetime warranty, mine's either getting new zippers sewn on or a fresh one made. And BEST OF ALL the chainsaw holder section either holds your steel toes or a lunch kit perfectly while walking through camp.

I use a Sog that folds and on one end is a knife that is about 4-5" and then if you fold that blade in, the saw part rotates out of the handle. very sturdy. The Corona mentioned earlier works well too.

The saw blade in my shovel handle is just a standard sawzall blade that can be swapped out. If yours is the same, you could probably carry a couple of extra blades with you. A lot of these other saws that ppl are mentioning are very appealing also. Can't beat a good saw.
