We pulled the trigger and are staying in Island Park the first week in January. We were there five years ago but need a refresher course. We would like as little trail riding as possible and we don't mind trailering to avoid some of that. We like boon docking, tree riding, that sort of thing. Also would like some tips on night time entertainment in IP and West Yellowstone. Sports bars, restaurants, fun spots, that sort of thing. We didn't do any of the night life thing when we were there the last time.:face-icon-small-sho
Thanks!

There are a ton of places to ride in the area, it's hard to name them all. But you're off to a good start.

Take Yale Kilgore road (which goes by the dump) all the way to the end where they quit plowing to the very last parking lot. You will pass 2-3 other lots before getting there. Unload and follow tracks through the trees towards the mountains which will put you up in the alpine ridges in 5-10 minutes. Terrain for all skill levels. Yes, you have a trailer a bit to get there but there is nothing that beats it in the IP West Yellowstone area if you are looking for revelstoke type riding. Let me know when you are here, if I am free I will take you up. As for food/party - the ones they listed above are pretty much it. Ponds in IP and Wild West Pizza in West are the best places to cut loose. No place out here makes great food, but plenty make good food. Almost nothing healthy. Plan on cooking if you want a perfect meal.

Hey thanks! The places I remember from 5 years ago were the Yale Kilgore parking lot and the Black Bear trails area. We had people showing us around then so we didn't have to plan anything or think. It was kinda nice, but now the four of us are on our own. Big D rmk700 mention going north of West but I don't see any parking lots on the map up there. If all goes well we will be in Bozeman January 2, and in IP the next morning. If you want, PM me your phone # and I can call or text you when we get to Bozeman or IP.
This is where we are staying. I don't know exactly where it is.

I will just throw this out there. If you plan on tying one on at ponds, plan on having a sober ride home. I got pulled over by the sheriff up there a couple of years ago and he probably could have easily took me in. Made me do the roadside olympics in a foot of fresh snow.

Just be careful if you do plan on getting completely sideways there.

As far as riding, Black canyon and yale/kilgore

Have fun, be safe.
