XM Clickers

What is the standard to run the clickers on the XM in elevations of 8000-1000 feet? I'm a flat lander (2500-3000 feet) and the clickers are set to '1' and I haven't touched them since I bought it. Must be the factory setting.

I'm headed to the mountains next weekend and was wondering if I needed to change them before I headed up. I'm newly back into sledding and I don't know much about clutching.

Also, I read that each setting on the clicker is roughly 200 rpms...so does that mean that the higher the # on the clicker, the higher it will raise the rpms? Meaning the setting of '1' is the lowest of the rpm settings for the clicker? Thanks.

W/o getting into details.
Generally, shoot for normal operation on clickers 3-4.

Many can 'get by just fine' on any number, but changing clickers can also change ramp profile and shift when at the extremes.

You can pull/add pin weight to get your clutching to run at ~79-8 while on clicker 3-4 at your elevation of choice.

Thats the generalized, simple answer I think.

And yes, 200 RPM is the aprox. change per clicker number. 6(?) is max [higher RPM], 1 is min [lower RPM].

I agree with Rotax. Also you will need to remove set screw from pins for higher elevation (8k to 10k).

Going to need some clarification on that. (Not sure where it is or what you mean)

Changing pin weight does require some tools and clutch dissassembly.
It may be best seeing/watching it done the first time if you are able.

I'm not familiar w/ the new TRA, but I had generally always removed the clutch, removed the outer clutch assembly/cup.

I'm not sure if Doo has put any R&D into making that simpler (I doubt it, they seem to be pretty stubborn about their TRA design...).

But it sounds like the XMs have been setup for ~5k feet as a baseline and they are just using clickers to adjust up or down to get you "close enough" for elevation changes.

I am by no means an expert on the XM's setup however, others will no better there.

I'd start by riding it, adjust TRA to RPM, get a feel for how things work. Then consider clutch mods if need be. 2ndary Springs? Pin weight?

Tune by feel and to fit riding style. A boondocking setup can be different than say a high speed hill climb setup.

Clutch setups are endless and can be quite opinionated, every rider is different.

On my XM the clickers were set to 3 for the snowies 7k-10k I live at 500 feet I set the clickers to 1 and its on rev limiter at wot, I ride 10 days in the mountains and maybe 5 days at low elevation. Should I just leave it alone? I don't care if I'm last across the lake or down the trail. The clutching is so good at high elevation I'm afraid to change anything. Felker motorsports did the clutching and geared it up 2 teeth

So is it okay to adjust your clickers without messing with anything else? I'm not very engine savy. The sled has about 300 miles and has been running flawless at 2500 feet. I assume the average elevation I'll be at will be around 9500 feet.

Yes, just adjust them to 5 at the higher altitude, that should be close. Hopefully that gives you enough RPM....you can go to 6 if needed but it will be giving up some performance.
Ideally, a pin weight change is the way to go. Its not difficult once you have the correct tools and do it the first time......after that its a 20 minute job.
I would just go to clicker 5 and ride it.

I rode my 13 in Utah a few weeks ago at 8-10k and clicker 3 was pulling 7900-8000 rpm spot on during long pulls. My sled is bone stock. Just FYI.

My free ride worked good on 5 in the bighorns, I use 1 here in Iowa, not ideal as I hit the limiter but it works good enough I don't care.

I was up at Brandywine last weekend and trying to climb the "Gauntlet". Got about 1/2 way on clicker 3 before running out of steam. Turned around, went back down, changed to clicker 4, got about 2/3 up but after than I was hot and tired so I just climbed the 'S-turn' instead. Guess I should have cranked it up to setting 5.
