Looking to pick up another sled this year for a back up/ short tracker/ buddy sled. Keeping it super cheap. I've been looking at rev chassis 04-07 doos 144-151 800s but a friend uist offered me a deal on a 14 etec 600 146 summit. It has some suspension parts and light mods as well. What sled would you pick? Is the newer sled enough to make up the lack of power?

For a back up sled I would go with e tec
Personally I want my back up as close in capability to my main sled as possible. How does your buddy keep up on a short track 600 against long track 800's? Why make it a penalty to ride the spare? Get a nice used '10-11 M8 and call it a day.
I’ve personally seen 14 etec 600s 146 track outdo the 08 151 800s everyday for two seasons in all situation but racing on lake or trail. I would choose the 600 etec over the older chassis any day
Went to look at the 600 this morning. I assumed it was an etc as he told me it was a 14 xm 600. It is actually a 14 sport carb 600. However it does have t.mo and an ras2 front end swapped on it. This leans me towards the 800 now? Any thoughts?

too bad it wasn't the 600 etec 146 those sleds do just fine and are a ton of fun.
I'd probably still take the 14 though as the 600 should be pretty reliable and easy on maintenance which is what I would want for a spare machine

No matter what brand I bought it would be fuel injected, no way I would deal with carbs when there are good used fuel injected sleds on the market. Don’t get in a hurry the right one will come along.

Well that settles it. I am selling my 800 and buying a 600. I bet everybody switches now, thanks for letting the rest of us in on your secret.
I on the other hand have watched guys on 600s suffer trying to keep up. Seen that happen for years as well, over and over...
Definitely not afraid of carbed sleds I rode a few different modded rev chassis sleds for years. The most recent was an 872 with a 154x3 under it, belt drive, custom built narrow front end, narrowed pannels, etc but it end it's life into a tree three years ago and I went from that sled to my stock 850 154x3. What ever sled I buy will be a doo and I was looking 04-7 as I still have all my good parts I pulled from my soed over the years and could slap together a very capable sled. But I've spent about zero time on an xp/XM to know if it's that much better to justify a stocker
There is a pretty big difference jumping from one series to the next. Rev to XP was a substantial change and the XM was a slight upgrade over that. Always buy the newest you can, the advances are worth it IMO. Since you are set on a Doo I will bow out now as that would not be my choice, nor would ANY 600 appeal to me. Good Luck

A newer sled with a small motor and track will always make you happier than an older one. So much easier to ride, just pull the trigger on the new sled.

and a 146 track is way to much fun.
i totally agree with this comment, "10-11 M8's were night and day more maneuverable off-trail than any other sled brand in that time period, they also had the adjustable height handle bars that made them the best trail riding mountain sled as you could lower the handle bars so you could absolutely rail the corners.

There are days when I still choose my '10 M8 HO ( with updates; clutching, shocks, skis, 2.6 track, can) over my '17 Mountain Cat. Why? If we're boondocking thru the mountains, I don't have to run my scratchers thru the sagebrush or if it's really cold the older body style is warmer or if it's just a fun family day, the two tunnel coolers are better on the mountain forest service roads or the hayfields at home! And it still has more grunt than the later Suzuki 800's or the new C-Tech! With a HPS can it is only 533 lbs wet RTR!

Oh, I forgot to add, that with the older clam-shell style hood M8s are way easier to acess for maintenance!
