What Pistons for XP Turbo??

Just curious wht you guys have been running for pistons in the 800XP when bolting on a turbo.. SPI, Stock (not wiseco I assume).

Stock pistons seem to be ok in all the XP turbo's I have seen run, the problem has been the crank bearings almost exclusively. Make sure you swap out to ceramic bearings.

Might i suggest some better quality rings from other vendors of cast replacement pistons ?

the exhaust face of the piston and rings see some wicked flame action under boost , a ring material less prone to flaking is a better choice to for long consistent life and performance.

fuel curves, reed life and rod bearing life all suffer when rings flake on boosted 2 strokes.

most of the aftermarket cast piston rings are inchangeble with oem doo.

So what are your thoughts on the forged piston compared to cast Gus? I was really tossing the idea of the wisecos just for that idea, plus I beleive they use 2 rings.

stock pistons work great as long as deto in in check. never had a problem with them.

studs, I've had great luck with wisecos in my 800 turbos, not a single issue.

I am not sure on the 800 r piston being 2 or 1 ring.

the ring from wiseco is less prone to deto flaking as its not chrome plated.

the forging wont break if you rattle it like a casting will, when testing an xp turbo system last season we got it to turn on the det light at 3 psi on 91 octane with a low compression head too boot !!!

faster than you could react to the det light the piston was missing a section of dome and ring land..
Now same sled, and set up, wisecos saw the det light and kept right on running. this was a test of piston durabilty and suitablity to a turbo for my flatland customers..

I won't send them out with cast pistons..but thats me on the flats with as poor a quality fuel as can be found. the mobil 91 is 14-22 % ethanol in winter in my area of southern NH . it fails isr test for every time..still has that nice epa sticker of 10% on the pump though,, makes you feel warm inside..

Cool, thanks for the reply Gus. I ride flatlands 80% of the time and getting race fuel is hard in my area so I was contemplating running av 100LL but it still worries me a little. I Have Av pump I can just pull up to though which is real handy. I hate pump fuel....it like going to Vegas, you might come home a winner or a loser. I perfer to be on the winning side of things if you know what I mean. :)

I know a guy that makes his own "race fuel" with the available 91octane and tolulene. He has a Turbo M8 race fuel sled. I am trying to get in touch with him to get the "recipe".

20% is prob to much. 114 + (91x4) div 5= 95.6 I think there is a limit to the amount of arromatic fuel that can be added and still raise MON . From what Ive read the av 100 is a good choice.
